Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bianca Adams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Bianca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think there are 3 ingredients to being successful: self-confidence & courage, risk taking, and knowledge and execution. Success first begins with self-confidence and courage. Self-confidence and courage are the tools needed to start on the road to success. Self-confidence is required because you first must believe in yourself and that you can achieve what you have set out to achieve. If you are selling a service or a product you first must believe that it can be done. The client or customer can pick up on your confidence. Courage is required because there are many moments that may cause fear that can possibly paralyze you. However, you must use courage to persevere. It has been many obstacles that had my knees shaking however I used courage to walk forward with shaking knees and get the job done. Risk taking is the second ingredient you need to be successful. You can never be successful it you do not push the envelop and take risks. You will never know what you can accomplish and the things you accomplished will be beyond your expectations. Yes, that task may seem like a mountain. You do not know the outcome. What do you do? Use self confidence and courage and take the risks. You may fail however you just might succeed to.
Lastly, knowledge and execution are an ingredient in success. Using your knowledge, you gained from taking risks and executing that knowledge will elevate you every time. Success is levels. Use self-confidence & courage, risk taking, and knowledge and execution and you are bound to go higher and higher. That is success.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started B.T. Elite Consulting Group in 2010. I started the company because I could not get a job. I am 05′ University of Georgia graduate and I was applying everywhere and I could not get hired. I was a mortgage loan officer for a while but that ended in 2008 when I had two brain surgeries, a right brain stroke, and congestive heart failure. I was starting all over again at life and I was so motivated to be in corporate America, That never happened. In fact, I was fired from every job I had had since graduating from college. I was fired for miscellaneous reasons, nothing illegal but simply being too ambitious and that got me out the door. So entrepreneurship is my destiny. I remember being infatuated with entrepreneurship but I got distracted by the glitz and glamour of corporate American; so I thought.
In 2010, B.T. Elite was a website, graphic design company. Business was very slow. I could not pay my bills hardly. It wasn’t until 2013 that I was introduction to the healthcare revenue business. I did not go to school for it but I just caught on and I was interested. In 2014, a female business owner who owns the same type of business today took me under her wings and taught me everything I know. I soaked up everything she said. I would come to her office on Saturdays or days I could come during the week and work for her for free because I knew I learned better by doing. Initially she was going to charge me for teaching me, however, I told her I was broke and she saw I was willing to work to for free to learn from her. In fact, in July of 2014 I got my first client and in August 2014 she referred my first big client to me. I have been with them for four years and counting. I was doing a good job for the client and clients started rolling in via word of mouth. I rarely have to do marketing because of healthcare providers utilize who their colleges utilize.
Today, B.T. Elite is in Louisiana, Texas, North Carolina, and New York. In 2014, I could not even fathom that I would be nationwide. I even have a team/contractors on board that help me. I started all by myself and now B.T. Elite provides healthcare revenue education, services, job opportunities, and intern opportunities. In August 2018 B, T. Elite partnered with a local college for students to get their externship hours.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I can remember attempting to be the business owner, customer service representative, work the accounts in the business, participate in continued education in my industry and answer all my emails. It was exhausting. I was working 7 days a week and I still was behind. I lacked time for my family and things I wanted to do, and I was stressed. I also believed that no-one could possibly do the jobs that I needed in the business. I am an organized person however it was not enough time in the day to do all those duties and then create organized systems. I was a total mess. I was making money, but I was too stressed to enjoy life. It was in those moments that I had to decide to run myself raggedy OR let the mantra go of “others not being able to help me in my business,” and hire others. Once I hired other people, I felt a burden lifted off my shoulders. It was a taste of freedom. I now could capitalize on delegating tasks and focus on doing what I do best; get new clients and grow the business.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The advice I have for managing a team is to train them to the best of your knowledge, support your team and spoil your team. Your team must have training to work efficiently in the industry. Appropriate certain days to do one on one training with each member. Answer their questions, show them ways of working smarter not harder and create an open-door policy of asking any questions. Never shut them down for asking a “dumb question to you.” Always thank your team and empathize how their talents are such an asset to the company.
Create quarterly TEAM BUILDERS where you create a weekend of fun, learning and comradery for the company. Everyone wants to feel valued and those that help the company grow should always know they are valued.
