We recently connected with BFR Podcast and have shared our conversation below.
Hi BFR, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
IT wasn’t something we set out to do. We just wanted to get together every week and talk about life. We then invited random people we knew and had them tell their stories. After we found our rhythm we decided this is something we want to do long term and hopefully as a career. We’re still working towards that.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
It wasn’t something we set out to do but one day Bean posted a picture of some recording equipment. Both Flawz and Rich almost immediately messaged him saying when are we starting a podcast. We are family and many evenings in our childhood we would be playing outside hearing our Grandfather and uncles share stories about life or what was going on, most of them being funny. We figured we could do the same and included guests to share their stories with us. We try to keep it light but have also had a few interviews where we do get serious and share what’s going on in the world. So our podcast is more of an entertainment focused show that leans towards comedian’s mainly but we’ve met with producers, musical artists, photographers and others who are just entertaining people.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
We think the best thing people can do is share and support what they love the most. It doesn’t have to be financially but just by getting the word out that there’s something that speaks to them on their level. Also help to network. We have had several guests that have helped us land even more guests because we truly want to support the entertainment community now in Texas. Also for creatives we thing it’s best to support each other. We’ve found we have a good relationship with those we work with and try to collaborate with others to share audiences. We don’t expect for everyone to jump on board but ultimately we acknowledge if we support others, they will support us
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Not really a pivot on a business but our podcast itself. We originally had another channel (it’s not online anymore). It was more irreverent to put it nicely. Less of a filter on us with some guests that had some really good story. Eventually it led to one of us getting in trouble at work for some of the opinions we expressed. They weren’t bad opinions or comments but some things that could seem insensitive. We took about a month off and relaunched with The BFR Podcast. This one is more focused and centers around entertainment as a whole. While the other one just had interesting people, the current iteration focuses on entertainment in our area. We are still unfiltered but we have a better grasp on our boundries and try to be aware of who our audience is.
