We were lucky to catch up with Bey Bright recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bey, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The biggest risk I’ve ever taken was to take my entire life savings of $100,000 and invest it all into my music career. That financial decision unfortunately cost me my marriage and my family because I lost all the money and wasn’t able to reach the career heights I’d hoped for from a commercially successful standpoint.
Although I took a major risk, I still believe that it was the right decision for me because I had to see my vision through and the only way that I could ever be totally happy was to see how far I could go by betting on myself. Even though I didn’t make the millions of dollars I believe that my talents warrant, I was able to learn a lot and ultimately create a business and infrastructure that allows me to create my music and make moves independently.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Bey Bright. I’m a singer/songwriter, music producer and author from Harlem, New York City. I’m the CEO of Bright Vision Entertainment. My company produces R&B Soul music and self help books on love and relationships. All my products focus on the power of love. I got into the entertainment business due to my love and passion for music. Like most people who aspire to sing or rap, I tried the traditional methods of attaining a record deal. However, for whatever reason, I could never secure a major record deal so I decided to learn the music business, invest in myself and follow my dreams. Everything I put out is written, produced and created by me. What I’m most proud of is how against all odds, I was able to create music and books that sell all around the world independently. I’ve been able to do what the so called music and literary professionals said I wasn’t good enough to do. I’m from the USA but my fans are worldwide and it’s truly amazing to see. The message I have for anyone who has a dream is to study your craft and believe and invest in yourself.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After losing my family and all of my life savings, I had an emotional breakdown. Everything I’d worked for over a decade was seemingly lost. My spirit was low and I felt defeated for the first time in my life. However, after the storm, I had to reevaluate my life, look at everything that I had left both tangible and intangible and began to rebuild. Through prayer and dedication, I rebranded myself and my company Bright Vision Entertainment. I began forging new business relationships and learning 21st century business practices. As the world started to embrace independence and technology, I was able to leverage my knowledge of direct internet sales and promotions to build a new business model for myself. Through it all, I learned that I was resilient and would never stop living in my purpose. No matter what!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The mission that has driven me for so many years is to prove to myself that I had some creative value to offer the world. In life, there are so many naysayers and gatekeepers who try to discourage you from living your dreams. I had to see for myself whether or not I was as great of a talent as I thought I was. Once I was able to reach people directly with my music and art, they would be able to validate my assumptions about my music without the interference of the gatekeepers. To my pleasant surprise, my music and books have been appreciated by an international audience! I can die knowing that I gave it my all and many people love what I do. I’m grateful.
