We recently connected with Beverlee McMillen and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Beverlee thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I love being a business owner! Sometimes I have had that fleeting thought of what it would be like to not have to wear so many hats that go with being a business owner and stylist. It never ends! I look at my husband in the corporate world and I don’t think I could go back to being a worker bee for someone else. Being a business owner is so rewarding.
Beverlee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a hairstylist and have been helping women find their perfect cut and color for almost 20 years. I ventured out to be my own boss as a stylist a little over 7 years and opened up my own studio suite. I am a mom of 3 teens, wife and furbaby mom. I also volunteer with a local animal rescue. In my free time I love to read, catch up on reality TV and go hiking with my hubby and my pups.
My expertise is mostly grey coverage and creating dimensional blondes and brunettes. I take a healthy approach to achieve these goals for my client’s hair. I always want my guests hair to not only look good, but to feel good. It is also important for my guests to feel beautiful inside and out.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been word of mouth and Google. I think being consistent in all aspects of my business and my craft plays a roll in getting new clients to come on board. Being professional and 100% transparent is key as well.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Open and continued communication fosters brand loyalty with my clients. From simple emails, texts on their birthday to give them a complitmentary conditioning treatment on the next visit with me, monthly newsletters that feature a product or a treatment, and hand written thank you cards go a long way.
