As a child, I wanted to be an archeologist, digging deep into layers of dirt looking for buried treasures. This childhood dream echos the search through layers of emotion and my working life as a psychiatrist. Imbued  with a curiosity that sought to find connection between our inner and outer lives, quilting became a bridge between these two worlds. I come from a line of quilters, my great-grandmother and grandmother, who lended an ancestral hand guiding me towards quilting.  Using  the “quilt” as narrative,  I explore current and past issues that inform our global and local communities. To me, art is not necessarily about making a pretty piece but rather to convey a feeling or message.  Viewing my quilts you may discover something hidden or unexpected leading you to ponder what they are  trying to say. These quilts are not typical pieced patchwork, rather they have been altered by color, print, and stitch to reflect a moment in time imbedded in the story I want to tell.  Through this creative process, I keep discovering new techniques and ways to express these stories through sewing and quilting.
