We recently connected with Bettina Mahoney and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Bettina , thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

I started my business after I survived a rape. I remember feeling terrified, scared, and lonely. My body didn’t quite catch up to what had happened to me, and I was in flight mode. I spent 6 months trying to find a therapist, and once I did I realized I needed additional mediums to help through the healing process such as coaching, fitness, and meditation. I never understood why healthcare in US was so inaccessible, and I was lucky to have support from my family. 50 Million Americans in the US are not as fortunate. Fortify Wellness is a 360 holistic platform that offers therapy, coaching, fitness and meditation on one subscription platform. The app serves as crisis prevention tool help people create a strong foundation in mood, sleep and stress to live a good life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I started my business sort of unconventionally after I survived a sexual assault. Of course the grieving journey wasn’t linear, and I struggled to find a therapist for 6 months. It was frustrating that in the United States finding a therapist is so challenging due to the decline in therapists available. Once I finally found a therapist, I realized I needed additional mediums such as therapy, coaching, fitness, and meditation to help myself process the trauma. I was fortunate to have the resources to pay for healthcare, but when you are healing the last thing you want to do is shop for additional wellness options. I was shocked that there wasn’t a 360 holistic platform already available offering therapy, coaching, fitness, and meditation on one subscription platform. So I decided to go ahead and do it myself. Fortify Wellness is affordable, accessible, and protects the privacy of all clients & professionals.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Over the course of my life I have had a quality of work ethic and resilient fortitude. I have watched my family members, but more specifically my parents have this fire within them that refuses to burn out. When it came time to test these skillsets, I was quite young, and I had just survived a rape. I was terrified, depressed, numb, I mean you name it, I felt it. My journey towards healing was not linear. However, I made a choice in that moment that I wanted to help others move through their grief and trauma. Since that moment my life has been dedicated toward a mission of essentially fortitude, and helping Generation Z and Millennials find their own 360 holistic wellness journeys. I think moments that change your life teaches you a lot about yourself, and for me it taught me that in life I can handle most anything. That’s why when expected adversity comes with building an app, I just think “just another hurdle to jump over”. Life has prepared me for every hurdle, and that’s why I’m the one to champion for others.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I learned from one of my mentors about honing in on your mission statement. Mission, Mission, Mission. Why should people care about what you’re building? What makes you different? Everyone always say’s that they are different or the next billion dollar company. However, I have yet to see authenticity in the same way that I do it. I spent about two years on my mission, and how I want my customers to feel. Fortify is a 360 holistic platform offering therapy, coaching, fitness, and meditation on one subscription platform. We offer affordable, accessible, and attainable access to holistic wellness to help people build a strong foundation to live their best lives. Our brand voice is authentic, raw, and fortified as we call it. The only way to hop over the hurdle of stigma surrounding around mental health we is to talk about it. I am very open about my survivor story, and when I do whether it’s in business or in my person life, people admire how vulnerable I am with my wellness brand. Obviously my founder story occurred after I survived a rape. However, I have built my start up brick by brick by having authentic conversations centering around adversity on our podcast “I Feel You”, on our website with blog content and resources on wellness, and of course our weekly newsletter where we give our clients a 360 approach to wellness in under 5 minutes. When you are authentic people will resonate with that, and they will follow. I was just being myself, and in the process I have had the honor of working with incredible people. That’s my advice for everyone to figure out your authentic mission, and once you do then you’ll be limitless.
