Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Betsy Diaz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Betsy , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I had been in the wedding industry from a few years before I decided to open my business. Being a venue coordinator really gave me insight on the wedding world in’s and outs.
Once I got pregnant, with my son, my husband and I made the hard decision to have me become a stay at home mom to take care of our baby. Plus, we had been waiting for him for so long.
Being someone who feels the need to work I decided it was time for me to get back out there, but only on weekends. I met a few planners as I was working at my last job and made great friends.
The moment I was ready to work, I called them up and let them know that if they ever needed assistance at one of their weddings, I was their girl.
But aside from wedding planning and working weddings non-stop I was also a makeup artist which gave me another way to be part of a wedding.
So fast forward, I was assisting a planner at one of beautiful venues in Coral Gables and as I was in the middle of the dance floor, checking that the bride and grooms table was centered, I looked around and said “I can do this”.
At that moment, I thought of a Bridal House, that would offer different vendors and considering I’m from Miami … Bridal House Miami was perfect!
I checked instagram and it wasn’t taken, and the rest is history …
Betsy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Betsy, lead artist and lead planner for Bridal House Miami. Sometimes still seems surreal.
Above anything I am a momma to a 3 year old and a wife to my husband who I am so grateful for. We make a great team as I work weekends, he stays with Alex and supports me in any way he can.
Bridal House Miami is really more of a dream come true for me not just because I own my own business, but I always wanted to be part of something special.
Not even in my wildest dreams did I think I would become a wedding planner, let alone own my own business.
Makeup artistry, which is the first tier on my business cake, is something I always loved and gave me my first circle moment because as a young girl, I would take my grandmas magazines, grab any marker and pen I could find and would create shadows, lipsticks, wing liners and smudge with my finder anywhere I could to make something Smokey.
I became my family’s fashion and makeup coordinator so I guess I was destined.
But my last corporate job made me fall in love with weddings, plus the fact that I already love people, made me the perfect candidate for this industry.
I am so proud of not just the growth of Bridal House Miami in almost 3 years we’ve been open, but I mostly proud that I actually did something.
The procrastinator in me always overcame any dreams or ideas I had, but not this time. I was motivated to be part of beautiful weddings in more ways than one … LITERALLY!
Providing Beauty and Coordination services allows me to be part of different aspects of each weddings and sometimes gives me the opportunity to be in the same wedding with both my beauty team and planning team!
What a wild ride!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
First of all Social Media can be so overwhelming and can seem like a giant hard to beat. But the trick for me is to keep going, keep posting.
I use an app that allows me to plan out my posts and reels, that has made my page look the way it does, and has made brides and couples become clients.
I’ve also worked hard and learned how to take photos and videos to create not just a post but more of an experience when you visit my page.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Whether it’s my planning team or beauty team, I never undermine, disrespect or devalue anyone.
Although I would technically be the one in charge the day of the event, we are all equal, and I’ve come to understand that they all still teach me something new.
I listen, honor and apply what they have to say because sometimes someone may know a better way to do something.
It’s not a dictatorship, it’s a team effort!
