We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Betsy Baltzer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Betsy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you manage your own social media?

I currently manage Literati Spirits’ social media accounts myself because I truly love the creative process—crafting visuals and writing clever captions that engage our followers. We want every post to offer an “experience,” not just a product.

However, one of the biggest challenges is continuing to create content that feels both valuable and fun for our audience. It’s a lot of work, and it can be tough to keep up with all the different platforms while maintaining the quality we want to deliver. I’d love the opportunity to connect with other brand owners to discuss how they navigate these challenges and stay inspired.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My journey into Literati Spirits began through a passion for creating unforgettable experiences. As the founder of Betsy B Boutique, my luxury event planning business, I’ve always been dedicated to curating elegant, memorable events. It was through this work that I met Brisa, one of my very first clients. Her vision and passion were so inspiring that when she asked me to partner with her on Literati Spirits, it was a no-brainer!

At Literati Spirits, we’ve built a boutique vodka brand that pays homage to the iconic characters of classical literature. Distilled locally in Colorado Springs, our vodka is crafted with precision and care, ensuring every sip reflects the beauty and depth of the stories we love. From Pride & Prejudice-inspired flavors to the stories we tell through each cocktail, we bring timeless elegance to evert bottle. Our current offerings are perfect for crafting classic cocktails with a literary twist, and we’re thrilled to announce that our next collection is set to release at the end of the month, bringing even more creativity to your glass.

What I want potential followers to know about me is that my passion lies in blending art and hospitality, whether through planning unforgettable events or bringing the stories of Literati Spirits to life. I believe in the power of creativity, connection, and, of course, a perfectly made cocktail.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

How much time do you have? Lol!

HANDS DOWN – “Unreasonable Hospitality” by Will Guidara. I think I’ve earmarked every other page, and don’t even get me started on the underlined quotes! One that resonates deeply with me is: “Most important, we have an opportunity – A RESPONSIBILITY – to make magic in a world that desperately needs more of it.”

I truly believe we should always give people more than they expect. The lessons in this book about service and leadership have been incredibly impactful, teaching me to “find the magic” in what I do—whether for myself, the people I work with, or the people I serve. I believe in creating a hospitality-first culture, and feel everything about our business will improve because of it. This philosophy influences how I approach both Literati Spirits and my work in luxury events, where the ultimate goal is to always create remarkable, meaningful and unforgettable experiences in everything we do.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

The story of how I met Brisa is one of those serendipitous moments that changed everything.

It was during the early days of my event planning business, Betsy B Boutique. Brisa was one of my very first clients, and from the moment we began working together, her energy, creativity, and vision were absolutely magnetic.

As we worked together on several events, we realized how much we had in common in terms of our love for creating experiences that went beyond the ordinary. Brisa had a vision for Literati Spirits—an idea that blended our shared love of classic literature with the art of crafting exceptional vodka. When she asked me to partner with her on this journey, I was like “Ummmm…OF COURSE!” Brisa is the most inspired person I know, and it’s been an honor to work alongside her, bringing Literati Spirits to life. Our partnership was born out of mutual respect and a shared belief in making moments magical, both through events and now, through our boutique vodka brand.
