We recently connected with Bethany Taylor and have shared our conversation below.
Bethany, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
There is so much value in a name. I was able to name my brand because of a previous experience I had on a television show. I was invited to the Today Show to highlight my 120lb weightloss journey. Producers of the show advised me that I would go viral within 24 hours. In hearing that, I decided to make all of my social media platforms cohesive to my weightloss journey and the motivation it took to accomplish that. I decided to name my YouTube page Amotivatedyou. When I created my clothing line, I stayed within the realm of motivation and AMotivatedYou Collection was created.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am currently a motivated Social Worker and Entrepreneur who spreads the gospel of Jesus Christ through apparel. This passion comes after a journey I began more than 10 years ago that lead me to lose 120lbs initially through hard work and faith in God. I let any person know that I believe in the power of God not only to heal, but to give strength in any life circumstance. I always reference Matthew 6:33 out of the bible to help people understand that concept. I am proud to say that my faith-based apparel line is inspiring individuals through various walks of life to come closer to God. Whenever I wear my T-Shirt in public, I always have strangers approach me to talk about the goodness of God and share their testimonies with me. AMotivatedYou Collection, LLC empowers people through gospel and including scriptures on many of the items, making it different than most apparel lines.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The initial capital I needed to start my business was funded from my personal savings. I am a full-time Social Worker and decided to save money to start the business as a secondary steam of income. I was also able to apply for business credit through the bank.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During my time as a new business owner, I have been able to assess the needs and wants of individuals who purchase and wear faith based T-Shirts. The original items I sold were only of my business logo. I understand people are looking for apparel that is modern and trendy. From there I was able to start designing apparel that still keeps the standard of the mission of my business, but met the colorful personalities of the people purchasing my apparel.
