We were lucky to catch up with Bethany Sturgis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bethany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
My idea for my pelvic health clinic began during my employment in an outpatient physical therapy clinic in North Denver. Working with health insurance was a daily occurrence, but I began noticing a difference in the coverage provided for pelvic health patients. There was no coverage for healthy birth prep, covered sessions were limited to two or three visits, visits were limited to sixty minutes, and the insurance companies required additional paperwork of the provider. I believed that there had to be a solution to this lack of care.
Once I decided to move forward with this idea of my own clinic, I had to figure out how I would continue to pay my regular bills, plus the rent of an office space. I decided a split schedule would work best; I would work part time for a company, and build my business during the rest of the week. I already had my degree and pelvic floor training, so that was set. I put out a few feelers for office spaces. A close friend of mine connected me with a couple friends of his who were personal trainers and looking for someone to rent their extra office space. Once I met them in person, I knew our businesses would compliment each other perfectly. Honestly, I didn’t look at any other spaces. I met with them a couple times, we discussed lease terms, and I moved in about six weeks later.
I took a PRN (part time, as needed) physical therapist assistant job and got to work building my business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I grew up in Pennsylvania, was active in soccer throughout high school, and always loved biology, anatomy, and physics. I went to college in Scranton, PA and started my physical therapy career in Philadelphia. After living in Philadelphia for two years, I moved to Boston for travel physical therapy, then finally moved to Denver in 2020.
While working in Denver, I started learning more about pelvic health and the pelvic floor. I learned how integral your pelvic health is to your whole body wellness. I learned how many mothers deal with pelvic floor dysfunction unnecessarily.
In my business, I supply people with the tools and knowledge to take their health back, to get rid of the embarrassment of pelvic floor dysfunction, and to return to what they love doing. This can be the confidence to exercise during pregnancy and postpartum, the ability to run without leakage, the removal of chronic pelvic pain/pain with s*x, or anything in between!
I also provide therapeutic massage for pain relief, muscle recovery, and joint health. These are available as a mobile service as well!
My distinguishing factors are the specialized training I received from one of the best pelvic health institutes, Herman and Wallace, my holistic approach to pelvic health, the blend of physical therapy into my therapeutic massages, and my use of the most up to date research and techniques.
So far, I am most proud of the leap I made to start my own business, and the care I have been able to provide already.
For potential clients, you should know that your pain or leakage is not “normal”, you can exercise safely during pregnancy and postpartum, and you can return to what you love!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth has been the best source of new clients for me. Especially with pelvic PT and massage, it’s a very personal experience and people love hearing recommendations from people they already know and trust.
