We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bethany Shipley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bethany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I understood the potential of working with someone, but I struggled to find a suitable label to convey it to the world.
How can the concept of “coaching individuals to comprehending and utilizing their unique talents to contribute to the world around them” be effectively communicated in a concise, easily comprehensible term?
Ever since my family traveled in a 40-foot eagle bus, performing on stages as a family band, I have had a Personal Brand Coach. Initially referred to as our “graphic designer,” his role went far beyond defining our “aesthetics.” He helped us identify our strengths, taught us how to showcase them, addressed our vulnerabilities, and guided us in resolving them.
Having experienced firsthand the impact of someone who recognized my unique abilities, I fully understood and appreciated the concept of “my magic.” It instilled in me confidence in my personal brand and a profound understanding of who I am.
The term “Personal Brand Coach” came from this realization, encompassing a deep understanding of one’s identity beyond superficial appearances. It represents the gift of self-awareness.
My course, “Market Your Personal Brand,” combines personalized 1:1 coaching within a structured framework. It aims to help individuals truly comprehend their personal brand and utilize it to serve the world around them.

I am not only a mother and wife, which feeds my nurturing and empathic side, but I’m also an avid competitive volleyball player and coach, sometime runner, and a social butterfly, cultivating friendships wherever I go. My middle name is “Joy,” and it defines how I approach life, both personally and professionally. My entrepreneurial spirit led me to start a business in the essential oils industry. Through strategic personal branding, marketing, and a passion to succeed, I was the youngest person in history to reach the rank of Diamond in Young Living Essential Oils and achieved the Top .01% in sales worldwide. I cultivated a community filled with some of my favorite individuals that boasts over 12,000 lifetime customers.
As my business grew, I felt compelled to share the concepts of Personal Branding not only with individuals in my team but also with members of my community. I imagine a world where the vast majority of people wake up inspired by what they do and go to sleep at night fulfilled by the work they did. To fulfill this vision, I developed The Market Your Personal Brand course, which has garnered international acclaim for its comprehensive and sophisticated approach. This course empowers individuals to gain a profound understanding of their unique identity, distinguishing qualities, and how they can leverage these attributes to make a meaningful impact on the world. A book that I recommend for any leader who is looking to re-define their philosophy on leadership is “Let Your Life Speak” by Parker J. Palmer.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
In the realm of marketing, exposure is crucial. It’s not uncommon for individuals to wrestle between two marketing ideas and ask my opinion on which one they should pursue. My response is often “both”.
Establishing a strong presence requires relentless effort, and the most valuable advice I can offer is to “speak more about your passion than you think necessary.” Continually ask yourself, “How many individuals can I reach today?” and ensure that your genuine self is at the forefront. This principle lies at the core of the Market Your Personal Brand Course, which emphasizes the importance of authentic self-expression in capturing attention and making a lasting impact.
