We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bethany Hicks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Bethany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
Currently, I manage all my own social media. I use Instagram a few times a week posting photo sessions or reals on photography content. My content can also be found on Pinterest but at the current moment, it’s not my main platform. I also have started to use the new media app called lemaon8. Its actually a very interesting platform, it takes a moment to get used to it but its definitely worth checking out. My username for it is @BethanyHicksphtoto. I have chosen to manage my own socials as I have a degree in strategic communication with an emphasis on advertising.
Bethany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who have not met me before I am Bethany an Arizona-based photographer. Most of my current work is based in Flagstaff as that is where I am finishing my photography degree. My business motto is photography made just for you. I want all my clients to feel involved with their sessions and know that they are going to love the images when they leave. I specialize in Couples, Seniors, and Food. I know that seems like a crazy combo but who doesn’t want to have pizza during a photo shoot? One big thing about me is that I truly believe that everyone should hire photography. I know what you think “Well that’s how you make your money”. You would be correct but I’m not in the photography business for the money. If I was I would be doing only weddings and engagements. (Which I do love to do). I want everyone to be able to look back on the moments in their life and be able to remember all the excitement and joy.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I do my best to keep in touch with my clients. The best way that I have found to do this is establishing a lot of contact before the session and then after I post about them, I give sneak peeks, I even try to remember to post about them on special days like a graduation or if they are getting married. Not only am I building up loyalty, but my clients get so much more out of their sessions than just seeing me for an hour or so.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My best strategy for building my clients is knowing what I want to form my business and knowing my target audience. From there I am always posting content for the clients I want and doing some creative content to get some new people interested in my content.
