Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bethany Endter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bethany , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
One of the best pieces advice I was ever given is to match your client’s energy, but then raise the energy by one notch. For example, if you come in too strong with a 10 energy level, but they’re at a 2, you’ll burn out very quickly! Come in at a 3 or 4 instead. When you’re working one-on-one with clients, it’s important to meet them where they’re at and then bring them up from there. Energy management is important, and it’s a skill you need to hone if you want career longevity.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
From a young age, I was a competitive athlete and fell in love with movement. Now as a Fascial Stretch Therapist, I’ve had the opportunity to work with clients ranging from professional athletes to fitness newbies.
Through the years, I’ve had my fair share of sports related injuries including multiple joint dislocations, hip labral tears, and a severely broken wrist. I understand how difficult and painful the recovery process can be! Because of my experiences, I’ve been able to successfully partner with clients dealing with pain or traumatic injuries to work around the limitations and still achieve their goals.
My desire is to empower my clients to look and feel their best in a way that is safe, sustainable, effective, and fun! I fell into Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) because my client’s didn’t want to “waste” time stretching, and they only wanted to do the exercises that made them look sexy. I would get frustrated because I didn’t understand the point of looking good if you feel like crap! I stumbled across FST and went to a training, and then I got hooked and went back for more and more. I was amazed by the results I was seeing in my clients even after a single FST session.
FST is a science based method of stretching that feels AMAZING. Instead of focusing the stretch on the muscles, FST targets the fascia – the connective tissue that surrounds all of our organs and body systems. The results of FST are really impressive: increased range of motion, better posture, optimized athletic performance, better sleep… As a dancer and yogi, I’ve never found a method of stretching that’s proven to be this effective or feels so good!
I feel very lucky to do what I do, and that I have the opportunity on a daily basis to work with clients who truly inspire me. I’m a firm believer that our bodies are designed to feel amazing, and my passion is give my clients the tools they need to move efficiently and feel at ease in their own body.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When I first started out in the wellness industry, I was a personal trainer. If a client texted me at 2am and requested to reschedule for a time that didn’t make sense for me, I still agreed to it. I had zero boundaries! I was so afraid of losing clients and losing sessions that I sacrificed my own wellbeing. I was taught to always say “yes” while I was building my business.
Since then, I’ve learned that my wellbeing always comes first. I will accommodate clients to my best ability, but I have personal boundaries of when I respond to messages, how often I check my phone, and when I will or won’t schedule sessions. I thought that having boundaries would cause me to lose business, but I’ve found instead that clients find someone who has the appearance of being “hard to get” makes you more appealing! Obviously, I don’t mean saying no just for the sake of saying no, but being clear with clients about your boundaries and taking care of yourself. Your clients will respect you for it.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Be good at what you do, and care about your clients! If your clients love you AND have results to show for it, they will refer you to everyone they know. Word of mouth is still the best way to get your name out there.
