We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bethany Carlson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bethany below.
Bethany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Getting into the Real Estate world in and of itself is taking a huge risk. In most circumstances, you leave the security of a 9-5 job with regular paychecks and benefits, and dive into a world of ever changing market factors, and dependence on you and only you for providing for yourself.
In retrospect, I was always excited for an element of risk, whether that be riding the biggest roller coaster at an amusement park, or studying abroad for a semester in college. Some risk was not necessarily intentional – I moved across state for college against family tradition of the hometown college, I lived in Spain after graduating, and I moved across the country to live in Southern California as a young adult.
The risk of the Real Estate Career, was, however, reverse engineered. I first moved to this SoCal market of wealth-building opportunity. Then got a stable and familiar job to hold me over until moving on to a sales job with more income potential, but also highly based on commission. This dipped my toes into the waters of self-reliance as I explored which path into real estate I wanted to pursue. Upon saving up enough reserves to carry me for a bit (along with side-hustling as a Lyft driver), I finally took the plunge. Now, four years in, I am starting to feel a level of security, or at the very least, the faith that persistent actions will lead to results. I do not take all the credit though. While loved ones expressed care and concern for my livelihood, I was fortunate to have friends and family that have supported me, mentors who have educated and believed in me, and a work ethic with a persistence and resilience that refuses to give up.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Real Estate Investor, Agent, and Consultant. I got into this industry because there are so many different ways to make an income and to put deals together. There are many professionals in the industry who will take advantage of a situation, and I take pride in being transparent, and educating those I am communicating with, even if it does not directly benefit me.
My business partner/friend and I flip houses, and our number one goal on our purchases is to create a deal that works for both parties. We encounter sellers who only care about a hassle-free transaction, or need to close on a certain timeline, or who need a certain price and can extend their equity to us to make our numbers work. We also take pride in adding extra love and care during renovations to then provide a quality and safe home for a new family to move in to.
When representing clients, I treat every transaction as if I am buying it for myself in terms of the due diligence and making sure I am doing everything possible to protect my clients.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for me for growing my clientele has been relationship building. I’ve always been very social by nature, so I made it a point to share with everyone I know, and on my social media, what I’m doing and what I’m looking for. I attend a lot of networking events as well, and have the opportunity to meet tons of fascinating people through these events.
The key with relationships is to ask questions and show genuine interest in others. People tend to like those who show interest, and people tend to want to work with those they like. Building these genuine connections is vital in Real Estate, because those are the people who will want to be your clients, vendors, or biggest promoters.

We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
Sarah and I met a few years ago when we were both contracting for another Real Estate Investment Group. I was new to the industry, and she was coming from years of experience. I was expecting a bit more training and guidance at this company, and ultimately, the environment that we were in was not conducive to my success. Sarah and I became friends while working together, and she had taken me under her wings by teaching me what she could in the spare time that we had. Eventually, she decided to pursue investing on her own, at which point I told her I was going with her whether she liked it or not! We’ve been together ever since, and along with pursuing our goals, we have a ton of fun doing what we do.
