We were lucky to catch up with Bethany Brackebusch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bethany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents grew up very independent from a young age, at at 15 my mom was 100% independent from her parents which caused her to grow up quickly and learn a lot of life skills hands on that is hard for adults, let alone a 15 year old. With that being said, my parents have always supported me and my passions throughout life trying to provide me the life they never had. I had parents who made me learn life skills and taught me how to operate independently so i can achieve everything for myself. My mom showed me how important it is to be the light in a dark place and to always practice mindfulness as life is always about perception.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I signed with my mother agency 42 Model Management in December of 2021 with my agent Lenny Wheeler. At the time I was a full time college student at the University of North Texas, while i’m school i did a couple of photo shoots with fashion photographers in the area and the next thing i knew i was working the fashion market in Mexico City, Mexico with Contempo Models. Following the months i spent living and working in Mexico City i came back to Dallas and graduated with a B.S in Hospitality. Since then i have been signed in London, UK and continue to keep working in the fashion market internationally.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I’ve learned and continue to learn the importance of practicing mindfulness and being present at where i am. I think often times we focus on the negatives or what’s going wrong rather than realizing what we have and what we are doing right. One of my favorite quotes is “ If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present” by Lao Tzu. It is so important to reflect on the present day and be proud of your past struggles and accomplishments. Growth is only as big as you choose to view it.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
One of my favorite books at the moment is “Ikigai” written by Francesc Miralles and Hector Garcia. The book highlights the art of living and makes you want to be better, it forces you to look at things through a different lens and gain a different since if perception. The book also explains how important and figuring it is to not only try to things, but also discover your passions and really hone in on them to integrate them into your everyday life, and how the most simple of things can bring peace, fulfillment and belonging.
