We were lucky to catch up with Bethany Bierschbach recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bethany , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Wild Nuggets mission is to be easy to access and helpful to mama’s in all stages of motherhood. We work really hard to bring products that are for all ages. We carry a wide variety of Montessori style toys for ages 0-5. Examples of toys that we carry are solid color items that can teach hand eye coordination, texture skills for sensory play, and ribbon wands for imagination play. Other items you will find in our shop are accessories for fun everyday hairstyles for all ages. Our biggest goal to compliment our mission is to be sure that our shop is filled with inventory that we handmake ourselves here in Texas, items that we purchase through wholesale or are from other small businesses around the metroplex. We strive to be sure all of our items are quality over quantity to be sure that we only offer long lasting products to our community. Being a mama myself I do not bring products into the shop that we do not use in our own home. I order, make or curate everything in the shop myself. We have a team if mamas who help us sew our Lovies, this allows fellow stay at home mamas be able to support their home in other ways. Wild Nuggets believes in easy and affordable motherhood.

Bethany , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Bethany and I started Wild Nuggets back in 2016 but back then it was Grace Boutique Co. we were very fortunate enough to have a successful rebrand in October 2022. When I was pregnant with my daughter I knew I wanted to own a children’s boutique, and nearly 3 years after having her I was able to start my business with handmade hair bows. Gradually I started to add room decor and soon I began adding in the inventory of our shop now. Something special to the brand is our Lovies. These are our handmade snuggles for your nugget to love and cuddle. Wild Nuggets gave us the opportunity to start our own markets and events brand, In the Wild Market Days. With this we are able to provide an easy way for other small businesses to showcase their business in a space that helps them be successful. Most of our markets take place in East Texas and this has become our second home. Wild Nuggets and In the Wild Market Days are very special to me because I have this great community who supports me. I am here to support mamas, grandparents, caregivers, small businesses and my community.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Wild Nuggets and In the Wild Market Days are both self funded businesses. This has been a very hard and humbling experience. This also means that if I don’t have the capital then we can’t do those things for either business. Our community of continuous shoppers, online supporters and family is how we are able to pivot when we need to and still show up. When I first started it was each sale paid for the next batch of materials and that was it, but as we grew we could have a small profit. When we got into vendor markets two years ago each market paid for the market and their was no in-between. About 6 months into that we were able to have a profit about every other market as we grew our in person shopper community. When I first started In the Wild Market Days I maxed out one of my credit cards to pay for the venue and one to pay for marketing materials. During the first few shows I was fortunate enough to have been nannying so I had that small income as well. Each market brings us one step closer to having a real capital to grow even bigger. This year we had some big goals to grow and never did I think that meant being a market/events host to support other small businesses. Wild Nuggets is headed to do some huge growth in the new year. I truly started with zero and just did it because I believed I could and I wont hear otherwise.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is hard and will never think otherwise, that being said I love social media because its how I was discovered and am able to tell you my story. I started my social media on my own personal page before I decided that Wild Nuggets needed its own space. Our social media not a huge but people know we are their, I grew both Instagram and Facebook by staying consistent. consistency is different for every single person. I believe that if you can only give “x” amount of time of good genuine content then that’s what you do. I tried to keep up with the fads and the influencers and I ended up getting burned out. I was fortunate enough that our babysitter at the time was interested in helping me grown our social media platforms and that was helpful. I recommend planning what kind of things you like and what you enjoy watching/seeing. Only put our content that was easy for you to make when you first start out. Over complicating it is where I messed up and decided that I just wouldn’t do it anymore. When I finally decided to only do what I could when I could I started to see a shift in my platforms. I am all about quality over quantity in lots of aspects. I do have a social media virtual assistant who does create our branded graphics and reels from time to time. With all that said my biggest advice is just start, start talking about your business and your people will come. Social Media has given me so many great people, customers and events.
