We recently connected with Beth Rubin and have shared our conversation below.
Beth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
When I first launched my business it was with the objective that I wanted flexibility with my schedule, to be my own boss and to control the projects I was involved in. This was over 20 years ago. During the duration of my business it has changed forms. Initially working within the real estate field providing marketing to now creating impactful events on the production side while also continuously coming up with creative ideas that can be executed.
I am always learning and growing and adapting to meet the needs of my clients. I am not afraid to learn something new, to ask for guidance or help from others that know better! And doing the research to find appropriate creative and business partners that do what I can’t is key to the completion of a project.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Not many people have the ability to use both their right and left brain … but that has served me well in the work I have be able to provide for many years. Why? Because I can come up with a creative idea and then think about how it is implemented, the steps and end goal.
I provide marketing, design, project management, development and event planning and production, I work directly with small businesses, non profit organizations and individuals to help their businesses grow. Additionally I design and produce brand and social events as well as private parties.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Although I started my business Where it Blooms over 20 years ago, there was a period of time that I worked for an event planning and production company. My marketing and design skills in conjunction with my branding background created the perfect skill set for the events I produced; corporate and nonprofit events, editor previews, social events and brand launches. I was able to work with a wide variety of clients and had the ability to be not only creative but highly strategic and detailed with event execution.
BUT, when COVID hit, our events which were scheduled to be in person suddenly were canceled and so began the planning of virtual events. This wasn’t something that I was passionate about, it held back my creativity and the world as we knew in events had shifted without an understanding of what the future held.
In July, 2020 I decided to return to my roots and pick up where I left off with Where it Blooms, LLC and made the decision to once again own my own business and return to my marketing roots! And since then events have come back so now I not only can provide the marketing support for my clients but am able to do what I love which is event design and production.
I work directly with clients but have also been retained on the contractor side for other companies that need the support.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Reputation reaps rewards. All my clients have come from referrals. The work that I do, the partnerships I create and the relationships I have made have been the biggest reason that I continue to have my business be successful. I don’t have ego, I only want the best for the clients I serve and however I need to reach the end game is what I’ll do!
