We recently connected with Beth Marie and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Beth, thanks for joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
I am currently the main manager for my social media content. I have considered reaching out to a strategist in the past. As someone sponsored by Rezurrection Media LLC I definitely have the upper hand when it comes to bouncing ideas off of other creator’s. I prefer managing my own content as I am my brand and want to stay as genuine to my own interests as possible. A huge lesson for any and all streamers is to spend more time making cross platform content to drive viewers to your stream than spending 10 hours hoping a viewer will show up. The best way to get an audience is to teach out yourself. Provide a value to your brand.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those that do not know me, my name is Beth Marie, better known as @chaoticcurlygirl on most major social media platforms. I am first and foremost a Twitch Affiliate and Lifestyle Content Creator. I’m sponsored by Rezurrection Media, LLC. A huge part of my brand within that aspect is my playthroughs of cozy games such as Stardew Valley and Cozy Grove. I’m also well known for my love of the horror game Dead By Daylight. The content creation aspect of my brand extends to mid-sized fashion inspiration, makeup, and relatable lifestyle content.
Not only am I a content creator, but I am also a full-time college student. I am currently studying at EC3PA (Erie County Community College) for an Associates in Information Technology: Network Systems and Programming. I currently hold a 4.0 and work full time in my degree field as an IT Support Specialist. I have a passion for knowing how things work, how to repair them, and how to create new variations.
A third facet of my content and personal brand is my involvement in acting within
Maple Street Production’s horror and thriller films Created by Jarod Gianoni and Robert Fox. You can catch me as one of the main characters, Lee, in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Springtrap (2023), a fan film made locally in Erie, PA, at Playport. You can also catch me as the nightclub singer in both the original Grinning Man (2021) and the upcoming sequel, Grinning Man 2, set to come out in 2024.
The main takeaway I want to provide is to stop doubting yourself. If someone had told me several years ago that I would be where I am now, I wouldn’t have believed them. I was an extremely shy and introverted person, unsure of my life. I have now adopted the mindset that if a legitimate opportunity comes my way, I need to see it through. Forcing myself to rise to the occasion in streaming, modeling, IT, content creation, and even acting has broadened my horizons so much.
Saying “fake it till you make it” sounds silly, but in the long run, it was that push that got me where I am today.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of what I do is sharing what I love with new people. It’s the best feeling to know I can introduce someone to their next potential favorite game or help them level up. On the social media side, it’s also a comfort knowing I am providing representation for girls who also have stretchmarks, a tummy, cellulite, scars, et cetera, because I did not have those things growing up.
It’s not about money or fame; it’s about the connection I get to foster with others.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
A lot of people outside of the content creation community and even some inside assume it is quite easy to become a successful streamer if you are female. While there is some merit to those claims when it comes to having a wider demographic, it is not guaranteed success. A huge part of learning how to market and brand yourself It’s not just filming a video and posting it once in a blue moon. It’s a required schedule, an analysis of trends, creating content on all platforms, and meeting guidelines for all those individual platforms. All while creating a consistent and welcoming experience for every viewer, even if they do not subscribe or reach your content again. The market has become inundated with so many creators since COVID and continues to grow. It’s beautiful in a way but also stressful, as you want to remain relevant while also adhering to yourself. Being able to become a full-time content creator is a privilege, but it can also take a toll on many. There is an expectation, especially as a woman, to always be “on” and smiling. Even when going through grief or extreme sickness, many creators continue to engage and create content because it is their livelihood.
