We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Beth Hackett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Beth below.
Alright, Beth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Are you just surviving or living the life you choose? Would you say the things you say to yourself to someone else?
Are you constantly on a diet and frustrated?
Have you ever hit a wall reaching a healthy weight?
I was just surviving, and you probably can guess how I would have answered these questions 5 years ago. Thankfully, I found a solution and learned the tools to create the healthy lifestyle I wanted so badly, I did it one step at a time, and without surgery, pills, or supplements, I lost 348 lbs. Yep, you read that correctly. I’m NOT looking to find that weight again! After a lifetime of frustration, depression and feeling like a failure, I got off the diet merry-go-round for good. There are so many people on that diet ride who don’t want to be. They feel stuck because that’s been their experience their whole lives. Once I had the opportunity to experience what is possible for myself, I wanted others to believe in the possibilities as well. Before starting, I was afraid to hope there would be a different outcome than the lackluster results I’d had in the past. I couldn’t even imagine how much building confidence and making small changes could impact all the nooks and crannies of life. But it WAS different because I was becoming different. As I invested in myself and celebrated each victory, the changes kept coming and I experienced unfathomable success. My life and career have been focused on helping others and I believed in my program’s ability to create breakthroughs for anyone. I had learned so much and jumped at the opportunity to teach and guide others to achieve their health and wellness goals. My business, Health, Hope and Success, LLC was born.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Beth Hackett, and I am a wife, mother of two adult children, plus a dog and cat mom. My husband and I have been together since we met in high school band at Heritage High School in Littleton, Colorado, 41 years ago. I’ve been in the healthcare industry as an Occupational Therapist in acute care hospitals for 34 years but started a business as a health coach 5 years ago. After years of yo-yo dieting and trying to get healthy, but just getting more and more frustrated, I watched as a friend had remarkable success. She released 25 pounds, and most importantly, changed her relationship with herself and with food. Joining the same program was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself! Although weight loss was my primary goal, I noticed so many shifts in my mindset and understanding of how to create habits that changed many more aspects of life than I could have imagined for me. So many people are searching for health but are not sure where to start or what to do when life gets in the way. We’ve all been derailed from our goals by life, right? I can help you learn how to become more resilient and navigate through life without sacrificing YOU.
I’m proud of my own health and there is not a single part of my life that hasn’t been touched by this journey. I created my business and started coaching to give people the tools to win in their health.
The most common issues clients experience include: an inability to lose weight, lack of energy, general pain in their body and joints, and frustration with a lack of results. Clients also report waxing and waning motivation, negative self-talk which keeps them stuck and lacking self-confidence. They might also be navigating multiple medical issues, have difficulty managing stress and fall back into old habits, and feel like life is against them. I help clients find solutions to these problems.
As a coach, I provide:
Personalized guidance tailored to your goals.
Accountability to keep you on track and motivated each step of the way.
Nutritional insights as you learn to fuel your body for energy, vitality and feeling good.
Enjoy workouts that suit your fitness level (although exercise is not required).
Sustainable Changes to say hello to a healthier, happier you!
I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of people create health in their lives over the last five years and there is nothing better than watching the light of confidence spark then build in a client’s eyes. If you are ready, I can guide you. It’s my honor to link arms with clients as we walk their personal journey together. I share my story to speak to the person who is defeated, frustrated and at the end of their patience. I was there too. I want you to know that whatever you dream of and wish for, you deserve it… AND you CAN create it. I believe in you and want to spark hope and self-confidence, so YOU believe in you.
What sets me apart in this business is the valuable experience I gained while working through my own personal health journey and the care I take in supporting clients. I am a good listener and believe in the importance of knowing where people are starting, understanding the barriers they face and guiding them to break through to create the transformation they desire. My purpose and passion are to create health in our community.
My story is always a work in progress. I’ve been obese most of my life, and as you can imagine, I’m familiar with the frustration, feelings of failure and the depression cycle we can get stuck in when dieting. After an injury at work, I was prescribed 14 different medications plus opioids over time. I gained a tremendous amount of weight and after ten years of severe depression and addiction to those prescription medications, I went through detox. I lost 250 lbs., and kept that weight off for over ten years, but I was still obese and miserable. A month before my 50th birthday, I had a heart attack while working out. A year later, I decided to try one last option to take control of my health and started what I considered “as another diet”. I quickly discovered this program was so different than anything I’d tried before. I released 98 pounds in 11 months and transformed my life!
When I started, I had challenges with sugar addiction, years of ingrained and unhealthy habits, destructive self-talk, and poor self-esteem, but this time, I had the support to learn new strategies and techniques which helped me take small steps towards my goals. Thanks to the help of my coach and a proven program, I began to understand the nutritional needs of my body, slowly shifted those unhealthy habits, one habit at a time and created a healthier mindset. People often ask me what has changed. My answer? What hasn’t changed? One of my greatest joys that came from health is getting to spend quality time with my family. Hiking, boating, four wheeling and even rock climbing is all a part of my life now. In February of 2021, I went skiing with my 27-year-old son for the first time in his life! Amazingly, because of my health and improved strength, skiing came more easily as a 55-year-old than it did when I was in high school. My self-confidence and beliefs transformed right along with my body, and that’s an amazing feeling!
I knew I wasn’t alone in this struggle and as I experienced the results and victories, I decided to help others who felt stuck and unsure of what to do. Was the process easy? Nope, not always. The nutrition plan I follow is simple, but the heart work and mindfulness took being intentional and consistent. Our minds, thought processes and habits are so important to our health. If there is no change in those areas, most people return to old habits and gain weight back. There’s a saying, “Nothing changes, if nothing changes.” As a coach, I find great joy in linking arms with clients, helping them shift thought processes, establish healthy habits, work through obstacles, and foster knowledge, consistency, and intention in their lives. Celebrating wins with clients ROCKS!
Along the way, I have learned so many lessons, strategies, and tools to navigate life and focus on what I can control. I understand what is healthy for our bodies, how to fuel our body well and how energetic we feel when eating food that supports their goals. Instead of eating every emotion and reacting to them, I learned how to identify and manage emotions, step back and respond. We are all human and I strongly believe there is no such thing as perfection. Learning is what keeps us growing and moving forward in life, but looking at what we can learn from every challenge or setback puts us back in control. Coaching helps keep me accountable. My story and the life I envision are works in progress. When I reach a goal, I set a new one. When life derails me, I pivot and get back into structure. As a health coach, I am honored to guide clients through the challenges life sends our way.
Before starting my program, people tend to have a deep belief they can’t get healthy. That belief comes from experience, and I didn’t believe I could be healthy either. But, with the right tools, support, and education, you CAN create the life you want to live. Whatever that looks like and means to you, there is hope. You don’t have to do this alone. I can help you get into action. I believe in you!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my audience on social media was probably the most daunting part of coaching for me. I wasn’t comfortable with myself and didn’t want others to know that. Do you know that social media follows an algorithm to determine how many of your friends see your posts? I certainly didn’t. Although I had a Facebook account, I wasn’t very active and didn’t share much myself. Luckily, my business coaches not only showed me the ropes with social media, but they also guided me through it step by step. I chose to use my personal page and add my business to it.
Initially, I started with 3 posts and 3 new conversations per day to use the algorithm to my advantage. I varied posts between family, humor, living a healthy life, health tips, my personal health journey and showing the results clients and friends were seeing. As I became more comfortable with the basics, I took a class to learn how to break through that algorithm for good. Now I focus on being social and having conversations with people. Not because I want to get something from people, but because I really want to get to know people, and their challenges and victories and support them where they are.
The point of social media is to be social. So be social, start more conversations and learn about people.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
This business started as a side-hustle for me but is now my career. I was working full time as an Occupational Therapist when I started my own health journey. I believe in this program and felt called to guide others in health. Both fueled the desire to launch my business. My company business guidance and I learned how coaching others can fit into small pockets of time I had throughout the day. My first major milestone was partnering with 5 clients on their journey and learning how to support them well. Their success fueled me and through the free business guidance my company provides, learned how coaching others fits into small pockets of time I have throughout the day. I continued to build the business by listening to clients, helping them solve problems and being in their corner.
I kept sharing my story, bringing on clients and some of them chose to pay this gift forward by coaching. I guided them in the elements of coaching and just kept doing the high value tasks. I was amazed and proud when my income equaled, then exceeded my full-time job! Coaching and connecting with clients filled my heart and improved my finances.
