We were lucky to catch up with Beth Faulkner recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Beth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Your ability to build a team is often a key determinant of your success as a business owner and so we’d love to get a conversation going with successful entrepreneurs like yourself around what your recruiting process was like -especially early on. How did you build your team?
I am a firm believer you are only as good as the people you surround yourself with. Building an amazing team has been crucial to the success of End of Days Distillery. We started with just a core group of dreamers and doers and have continued to grow into the little army we are today. Back in 2020 it felt much easier to find employees. The workforce options seemed limitless and hungry for new adventure. In the beginning our hiring was for critical staff to take care of our lounge and retail needs. From that point we began to build a production, sales, and an expand our lounge and retail team. My personal hiring style is to do virtual meetings as an intro. This allows each of us to be in a comfortable familiar space and see if we are a good fit for each other. If that meeting goes well, I schedule a one on one meeting to expand our discussion. After those steps I am in a much better place to determine if the person being interviewed is a good candidate for our team.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Co-Founder of End of Days Distillery, Beth Faulkner, has, alongside her husband Shane Faulkner, focused on the ins and out’s of what makes a successful business, raising two beautiful children and volunteering her time and energy to the local community. Born and raised in North Carolina, Beth has cultivated a great appreciation for unique flavors and a distinct eye for interior decoration and design that has given rise to one of Wilmington’s most stylish & flavorful brands. Opening in 2020 just six weeks before the Covid 19 pandemic, End of Days Dstillery has not only survived an unparelled time for business but grown to a international brand producing award winning spirits in almost every spirit category.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Even with an amazing product, without out proper marketing we could not be successful. We stay connected with our clients thru social media, billboard, print and radio advertising and sponsorship of events. We also have created a lifestyle brand with merch and swag that allows our customer’s to stay connected with us no matter where they are!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We have two main focuses. One, to make amazing award winning spirits. Ones that could be recognized as premium and worthy of being used in your favorite cocktail. Secondly, we focus on providing an experience. We want anyone who visits the distillery to feel our passion for craft spirits coupled with our great appreciation for their support. We are nothing without our customers so we do everything we can to make them feel special and make their time with us memorable.
