We recently connected with Beth Eaton and have shared our conversation below.
Beth, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
Building a community of support and encouragement of like-minded people is first and foremost in my business. My people come to me for my products but they continue to stay for my community.
This is a review from a dear customer:
“I am just about 2 to 3 weeks into crafting. The group that you have created is like family/friends. I feel like I really miss everybody in between lives. Thank you Beth for inspiring us all. I am enjoying getting to know you. I like you for wanting to use your crafting knowledge to share with us. I like that your purpose of your work is to help people understand that it is possible to create home deco that improves their home. You have shown us that women are strong. That if we take care of ourselves, we too can improve. I love that you pray with us and probably for us.
We all love you Beth. God broke the mold after He created you.”
Beth, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My business started as a hobby that I enjoyed while I was being a stay at home mom. I knew I had a passion for creativity but didn’t know what that looked like in the real world. I started with just sharing my skills with followers and helping them learn painting techniques.
Five years ago, I went through a very challenging time personally and mentally. I didn’t know where I fit into the world and was in a very dark place. It was in those couple years that I grew as an individual and became clear on my why. I’ve always been a DIY girl but through those hard times I realized that I could help people begin toe DIY all areas of their life.
When people think of DIYing, they think of creating something physical with their hands for their homes or the people around them. But I take DIYing on my page a step further to helping the community DIY their life personally with the relationship within themselves and the relationships with those friends and family.
Currently, I design and cut wood projects for consumers and businesses. I also have started business coaching as a way to help other business owners find their way in the world and create success within their lives!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest thing I struggled with when creating my business with imposter syndrome. I never thought it affected me until I began to grow. I’m just a simple girl doing something she loves and I felt like I didn’t have “authority” since I didn’t have any official training or education.
I struggled for several years with feeling like I needed to validate who I was. Through my stage of depression and struggle, I began to realize that we all have gifts that we bring to the world. I began to live in those gifts and give up the idea that I needed someone or something else to validate me. I began to recognize the gifts and talents I had and I started living in them
Imposter syndrome went away, even though it was hard work. I truly believe now that every one of us has a gift that we have been blessed with and it’s up to us to bring it to life. We are not truly living until we are living in our mission and passions. No amount of schooling or education can give you what you need. We already have what we need. We just need to begin living in it and bringing it to fruition.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I have a small but mighty community! While business owners look to the “number of followers” to validate how successful they are, I look to the relationships within the community. You can have 1 million followers and not connect with any of them or you can have 500,000 and have a loyal audience who trusts and supports you.
Great customer service is first and foremost. My business is not about me, even though I am the one running it and creating the content. It is about the person I am connecting with at that point in time. I strive to make every connection on in which that customer feels like they are the most important and I am speaking directly to them.
Social media is a world that. moves fast and so it is important to constantly put them in the spotlight, versus yourself.
