Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Beth Compton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Beth, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always played with the idea of being a business owner. I didn’t know what form that would take, but my imagination was always wandering to concepts that included personal touches and unique finds. The women in my family are all do-it-yourself go-getters and creatives, so it wasn’t a far reach to consider turning a hobby into a business endeavor.
After a series of careers starting and ending in an attempt to find my fit (i.e. yearbook representative, English teacher, social media manager, etc.), I began refocusing my attention to my children. Almost eight years ago, my youngest son was diagnosed with autism. Our worlds and schedules turned upside down, and my day-to-day surrounded him and therapy, all while homeschooling my oldest son. It was hard and exhausting, but I truly wouldn’t trade a single moment of those years as I see my kids flourishing now.
As he grew older and more self-sufficient, I did begin to realize just how much my identity and purpose was wrapped up in being Mom. I was ready to find something that was “just for me” and even a reason to get out of the house. At the time, I had been working on little projects – a wedding here, a baby shower there. All of these were for family and friends at the time, but then more requests were coming in. News got out that I was doing these types of projects, and a North Georgia wedding venue asked for me to come to their vendor meeting. That’s really where everything began!

Beth, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Tinlizzy Design Co.’s goal is to provide personally tailored stationery that begins with save-the-dates, weaves through the invitations and ends with the wedding day signage and other needs. We are providing more than just invitations but truly a wedding brand.
After those initial startup years, I have settled into my artistic identity and offerings to provide the best experience for the couples I design for. Much of my work centers around digitally created custom watercolors or line art of venues and other special features of a couple’s day. I love connecting with couples to bring their ideas to life – hearing their passions, turning around inspired to design, and nailing their vision. When a couple feels like I heard them and I respond in turn with their dream stationery, it bring me so much joy. As I have grown as a stationer by being more authentically myself in all facets, it has only gotten better as I create for others shining their vision through the lens of my design.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency is key. I aim for every client to get the same version or me, the best work I can produce, and an ideal client experience. Whether a client has a multi-thousand dollar order or only a few hundred dollar order, I want everyone that works with me to know that they are being well cared for.
Additionally, I know that planners and other wedding vendors refer me because my communication is timely. As a creative business owner, it can be hard to switch from art mode to business mode, but vendors and clients need to know that deadlines will be met, emails will be answered and budgets will be in check. Reliability is essential.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I really had no idea what I was doing with social media when I got started, especially because I was intimidated by the photo side. I felt if the photo or caption wasn’t perfect, I didn’t want to post it. But, I had the opportunity to work with Amy Sullins of Amy Cole Photography and Upcrowd Social. She really laid out how to create a plan from posting schedules to hashtags and aesthetic. She helped me craft my voice and equipped me to better engage with my audience!
Being authentic and consistent is essential.
