We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Beth Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Beth below.
Beth, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
In October 2021, I lost my job due to discrimination. While I had been a business owner, for over 10 years, my businesses until that pivotal life moment were simply additional streams of income. They were in no way generating the level of income necessary for enjoying financial stability. However, I committed to not panicking.
As a breakthrough coach it is extremely important to me to follow the same advice I share with my clients. There’s nothing worse, in my opinion, than a coach who goes around telling others what to do, but doesn’t practice what they preach..
So my very first step was to remind myself what I always remind my clients when they begin speaking roughly about themselves or their future. Proverbs 18:21 says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
I had a choice. I could talk to myself about how I lost my job OR I could talk to myself about how I had just gained the opportunity of a lifetime.
I chose the most powerful words to live by. I chose to remind myself daily that I had been given the opportunity of a lifetime. Once I focused my mindset towards the word opportunity, I was able to clearly make my next decisions & business moves, even in the face of great uncertainty, from a place of peace & clarity, rather than from a place of fear & stress.

Beth, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When I first meet new people who ask what I do professionally & I share that I’m a breakthrough coach, there is usually a short pause in our conversation as they think about what that might mean.
So what is a breakthrough coach? My work as a coach is about supporting clients with elevating their lives after trauma or heartbreak to M❤P out new life success stories, boost their confidence & have happier relationships in just 20 days. Much of the breakthrough work I do with clients revolves around forgiveness (beginning with self-forgiveness) & evicting fear.
It wasn’t a childhood dream to grow up & become a coach, but rather my desire to teach others how to heal through the actionable healing steps I learned to awkwardly take over the course of my personal 3 year healing journey.
In 2016 after going through a physical trauma (rape) my thoughts were really confused & negative because I was focusing on my fears.
Will a good man want to be with me if he finds out what happened to me?
Can I trust my judgment?
What will happen now? Did I ruin my future?
I took my fears of rejection & self-loathing & I tried to pretend they didn’t exist by plunging into getting to know someone new so I could “feel better fast.”
It was a total disaster.
I had to learn to sit still with all my fears & work through them one at a time. It was a veryyyy painful, but also very healing experience.
My primary partner in my 3 year healing journey was God. He patiently led me through healing step by step, even when I was yelling at him that I didn’t want to forgive the man who broke my heart & insisting I couldn’t imagine forgiving myself for not being perfect. Today by God’s grace & guidance, I am a recovering perfectionist. Even better, I am a happy woman who doesn’t want to be anyone else or live anyone else’s life.
As a result, of everything I now teach my clients about healing their hearts, spirits & shifting their mindsets is from a Biblical perspective.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One thing I want to accomplish this year is to support 300 or more women & men with getting their breakthroughs – to be happy in life, enjoy healthy relationships & be at peace with themselves.
This goal is important to me because I know what it’s like to be on the dark side of inner turmoil, unhealthy relationships & feeling hopeless.
I live in Brooklyn & anyone familiar with NYC knows our subway system is a popular way to get around town.
The subway cars don’t allow for any personal space, even though many people try to carve out their own tiny space just for themselves by reading a book or listening to music.
One evening in October 2017 I started crying on my train ride home. Of course I 0 privacy, & was completely embarrassed, but the embarrassment didn’t stop my tears from flowing. It felt like the whole world was staring at my bleeding heart, even though no one was actually paying any attention.
In October 2021, I lost my primary means of income, which was unsettling because financial instability & its potential consequences was not on any of my vision boards.
I cried because of a broken heart on the subway in front of a lot of strangers in 2017.
I’m currently rebuilding my life after a 2021 job loss.
But the mindset difference between the 2017 subway me & the 2023 rebuilding me are like night & day.
Many people are going through uncertain times right now, According to an April 2023 article by Matt Brannon for Clever 30% of Americans say they’re not even taking any steps to improve their mental health despite being unhappy & stressed. This mental health situation is not ok.
By God’s grace & teaching, I have learned how to go through hard moments of uncertainty AND at the same time feel peace.
Because I was also a teacher for 20 years, it’s easy for me to teach others what I’ve learned & how they can apply the lessons so they can experience their breakthroughs.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
There were 2 books that I read at the beginning of my personal healing journey that were very important to changing how I saw myself.
The very first book I read was Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific, and Strategic Prayer by Pricilla Shirer. Before reading this book I didn’t understand how to really fight for myself, my future, or my loved ones in prayer.
The second book I read was Battlefield of the Mind: Winning the Battle in Your Mind by Joyce Meyer. Her book let me know that as a result of the physical trauma & everything else I was going through, I wasn’t crazy at all, but rather in a spiritual battle for my future.
But what had the deepest impact for me in shifting my perspective from a rejected woman who felt hopeless, to a woman who could love & forgive herself & others even in pain, was the song Psalm 139 (Far Too Wonderful) by Shane & Shane. The lyrics went straight to the core of where I felt most hurt & I recommend listening to that song to everyone!
