Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Beth Baumer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Beth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
A severe spinal cord injury is not stopping our NBFC member and ferocious fighter Chuck! AKA. “SLEDGEHAMMER”Congratulations to newlyweds Chuck & Wendy!
Neuroboxing Fight Camp couldn’t be more grateful to have been featured and highlighted as the charitable cause for your special day!
I was overwhelmed with honor when Chuck shared that he and Wendy wanted to ask their wedding guests to contribute to our program in lieu of gifts!! WOW! What an amazing & generous gesture!! We are always happy to have Chuck in our classes and love seeing the immense benefit he receives from what we do. Now we can turn around and share that with even more people in our community!! Thank you so much Mr. & Mrs. Chuck Purcell .
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Beth was born and raised in Ventura County, CA , where she attended Santa Clara elementary school, Saint Bonaventure High School and further up north, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. She has always been physically active, growing up playing soccer and other sports. She has participated in many triathlons, half marathons, one full marathon and the BP MS 150 bike ride in Texas.
Beth studied Spanish in Granada, Spain during college and maintains her bilingual skill. After earning her bachelor of science degree in Agricultural Business with minor in Wine & Viticulture, she decided she wanted to perfect her Spanish and live abroad in South America. Luckily her boyfriend at the time (now husband) thought that was a great idea as well. They lived in Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires, Argentina and traveled extensively around the continent.
She and her husband Ben, now live in Ventura and have been married since 2006. They have two children Donovan (2008) and Vivienne (2012) who are both active children. Ben is an attorney at Lowthorp Richards in Oxnard.
When Beth found out her father, Hank Laubacher, had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease around 2010, she was heartbroken. Fortunately, she remembered that her father is a fighter. Hank had seen a 60 minutes episode about how boxing can help improve the quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s Disease. He then did some research and found Neuroboxing located in Agoura Hills, just up the grade from his home in Oxnard. He started taking the classes and developed a very healthy new routine. The only thing was how far the drive was. He mentioned to his daughter Beth, that they should start an affiliate Neuroboxing program in the Oxnard area.
Coach Beth gravitated to the intense training and physical challenge that boxing provided. She started training in boxing in early 2019. In September 2021, she participated in an amateur masters boxing tournament in Las Vegas.
Beth has experience working at wineries, doing outside sales for large wine distributors, marketing, supporting medical practice offices & billing, social entrepreneurship and charity work. She volunteered with the National Charity League Ventura County Juniors for 3 years. The first year as Provisional Class Host, second as Event Chair and third and final as President. Coach Beth has also volunteered for 10 seasons coaching her two children in AYSO Soccer and now coaches her daughter in volleyball.
Going back to 2019, Beth enrolled in Neuroboxing affiliate training program. She studied and received her Program Director and Neuroboxing Coach Certificate. Neuroboxing Fight Camp had laid its roots down. In October 2019, Neuroboxing Fight Camp started offering classes at Fitzone Ventura. During covid lockdown, the program sustained itself with classes on zoom. Our program now runs now live in person in two locations in Ventura County, Portside Ventura Harbor and Camarillo.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn being a people pleaser. When you sacrifice yourself to do what you think others expect of you, your authenticity is subdued and you can’t tune into your unique vision. This can prevent your success. You must always live out your truth. Surround yourself with positive, like minded individuals who see and share your strengths. Build a team made up of those people who make you better and bring beneficial energy to your environment.
I had to rebuild my program a few times because I failed to do this.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Covid! I immediately started classes on zoom and kept our program alive through the pandemic.
I also had to change locations of my program a few times. Extenuating circumstances were influencing my piece of mind and freedom to run things the way I wanted.
