We recently connected with Beth and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Beth, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
With the explosion of AI, there’s an urgent need to show up as a human in all of your content. It’s always a possibility that the image you see, the voice you hear, or the content you read could be AI-generated.
Along with this explosion is the growth of distrust of all things online, via email, and through telemarketing. People hesitate to make online connections or answer their phones because they don’t know what is legitimate.
Conversational storytelling in content, using your unique voice and perspective, is another strong trend. Sharing content consistently helps people remember you and feel comfortable engaging with you.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have always been a creative writer, but writing for businesses came along later. I started out in the beauty industry, working as a hairdresser, sales representative, salon owner, and salon educator. I hold a degree in small business management. I sold my salon to stay home and raise my children, and always missed running a business – the marketing, managing people, leadership opportunities – and decided to combine my two loves of writing and business. When my youngest was ready for college. Working part-time initially, I became a full-time writer thanks to COVID-19.
I mainly offer “Done for You” writing services like website copy, blog writing, and messaging. I also offer consulting sessions, and I’m available for workshops and speaking engagements.
I help my clients recognize and utilize their voice – their experience, wisdom, and perspective – in all of their content so they can draw in the clients they can and want to serve best. I believe that until you establish your foundational story and messaging, nothing else can work effectively for you. Things like: SEO, sales copy, your introduction, unique value proposition, values, marketing, etc. If you’re not clear on how you do your personal work differently from your colleagues, you can’t secure any of those other things.
I’m super proud of how my clients are comfortable and confident in amping up their visibility. After our work together, they own their voice and aren’t afraid to use it across all platforms.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Every day, my mind is full of new ideas and possibilities. Curiosity and asking questions inspire me. This year I was nominated for an award for Inspiring Innovator by Women’s Business League. I am comfortable sharing my views and ideas that are different than mainstream views and ideas. Creativity is about solving problems and brainstorming solutions, and being the one to come up with a helpful solution feels fabulous!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Relationships for the win! I do a decent amount of networking and 1:1 get-to-know-you calls. I refer a lot of experts I know and respect, and in turn, they do the same for me. I have a CRM where I track people I’ve met so I can stay in touch with them. And a referral from a previous client is the highest compliment.
