Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Berrin Tuncel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Berrin , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am happier as an artist because I had this gift of creating at a very early age before I started elementary school..let’s say I was 2.5 – 3 years old when I used to draw big heads, human figures on the walls of our house when I was alone during the weekdays day as a little child of a working mother..My Mother was the first person who discovered my artistic talent. Also at the school’s library where my mother was a teacher, I had lots of papers & colorful pencils which always I used to use them for drawing human figures. Drawing was my only passion ever just as like today.
I also had private art lessons where I was a member of a Talented Child Club at the age of six. At the same age I participated a co-exhibition in my home town. After long years of my art career for a moment I thought about what I could have been if I weren’t an Artist. Here for the first time , I am explaining here; I think I would be an economist like my own paternal & maternal grandfathers.. I managed my life financially well enough, I have been always stable in my spending habits. Being an Artist for a life time was the best thing that happened to me..so I have the chance to shout out to Art Lovers who appreciate my Art anywhere in the world.
Berrin , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As I mentioned previously, my talent in creative arts was discovered at a very early age. Genereally you hear that some children want to be a teacher or a doctor. I never thought about any other professions except being a creative artist. Because my natural talent impressed first my mother and then her colleagues at her school where she was a teacher. I always wanted the same attention while growing up so I always dreamed of being a famous artists that would be admired by the world art audience. About entering the art industry, I really didn’t have such serious eagerness or enthusiasm to be a part of the local art industry, because where I was born & raised infact there is no such professional art industry as you could name & consider in international norms. Therefore I always considered being a part of a worldwide art community. And,
I managed it at an early age I think as a woman Artist. In 1998, at the age of 41, my name found a space in the USA Art Database. In the same year I became a member of a multi- national Art Gallery in Ny, USA . France honored me, listing my name in their Art Literature of World Artists. Recently , eight months ago, one of my paintings was sold in an Art Auction in New York, US. The fact is that my only effort was continously painting despite many “obstacles ” which are needed to be shared with precious admirers of my art separately at another time surely some time soon.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have so many long stories in the Art Journey that illustrate my resilience. Now, I am having my third interview from the world press in the last few months.
I confess that I have been waiting for “my victory day” for long years and here I am; my own existence till today has proven my “resilience “.
