We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bernice Cohen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bernice, thanks for joining us today. What’s the best advice you ever gave to a client? How did they benefit / what was the result? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
I specialize in “facial balancing” so, talking to patients about how to get the best, NATURAL look is always my goal. However, I work with each individual person to derive the best approach or plan to achieving their overall desired look.
Sometimes this can take a while. I have a number of clients that I’ve worked with for years to get them exactly where they feel their best – and the results can make them look like a whole new, refreshed person.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Being The Master Injector, Bernice Cohen, RN, BSN, PHN, CANS with almost two decades of experience as a Certified Aesthetic Nurse Injector, I am known as one of Americas top cosmetic injectors and I have trained thousands of plastic surgeons, dermatologists, PA’s, NP’s and RN’s in the field throughout hundreds of private training courses.
I’m a National trainer for major pharmaceutical companies such as Galderma, Allergan, MTF, Evolus, Medicis and Valeant. And I’ve been distinguished as one of America’s Top 100 Aesthetic Injectors awards 5 years in a row.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
When I started, the only people administering injectables were plastic surgeons. So, my origin story within the aesthetics industry came from a unique opportunity. I was told to attend an instructional training on injectables by my supervisor because they couldn’t make it and didn’t want to shirk off the trainers that had come to the office.
**the below response also feeds into my overall reputation and success**
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Putting in the effort to understand my patients overall desired outcomes while ensuring that we achieve a favorable, natural look throughout the treatment process.
Each person is different – some people come in knowing what they’re interested in doing, others are seeking advice and direction on what would be best to do, while others still are willing to be a blank canvas, simply excited for trying out whatever I feel would enhance their look.
Keeping these points in mind, I’m especially considerate of how we start a patients treatment plan. My job is not to reform bone so I can only build upon each patients unique facial structure.
In some cases, it’s necessary to create a better foundation before administering final touch looks. This means ordering treatments in an efficient, sequential order, which may require explaining to patients my reasoning for the treatments I suggest.
