We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bernardita Thenoux. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bernardita below.
Bernardita, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The biggest risk I’ve ever taken was leaving my hometown in Chile, where I had an amazing life, a big group of friends, a supporting family, and a thriving career as a senior apparel designer. I sold all my things and moved to California with nothing but dreams and an eager soul that was craving for adventure and an experience beyond the life that I already had, beautiful! but also very predictable, and a life that felt like it was already written before I even lived it. I wanted to live each day as it came, I was hoping for something bigger and magical to happen. I didn’t fully understand what that meant at the time, but in insight, I am grateful that I took the leap of faith into the unknown. I think about it as the stupidest and smartest thing I’ve ever done. A new beginning into an amazing, crazy and definitely unpredictable life. A journey that has brought so much growth, love, blessings and adventure. When I arrived to California, it was lonely at times, very challenging, and it seemed like I couldn’t catch a break as much as I stayed positive and looked for the upside on things, I felt like swimming against the current and it was exhausting. It was hard to build a community and a support system like I had before, finding a good job or a place to live. It was, for sure, a humble new beginning in every possible way. I got my not so safe and predictable life, a clean slate to live each day as a new adventure, with the good and the bad.
Like the Tower card in tarot, I guess everything needed to crumble before I could rebuild this new life that I wanted so much. Things can not stay the same if I want change, literally both can not be true. I had some resistance at the beginning, but eventually I realized that I had to let go. Trust my initial desires and dreams, trust my instincts and let my heart be the guide to embrace the unknown and this new beginning. And that’s exactly what I did! and all the good stuff came flooding in. The right people came into my life, a bunch of new adventures and ventures with it, spirituality, healing and self-awareness was flourishing, all the hard work, perseverance and positivity paid off! By taking every day as a lesson and embracing every new person as a teacher, opening the doors for the “new me in this new shiny exciting bright life”. Still scary, not going to lie, but it is mine to build, is mine to live and I love it! I like to use this mantra every day. “I love life and life loves me back!”
I wasn’t just a Latin or an American, a wife or a free spirit, a designer, or a yoga teacher. I wasn’t one label – I was all of those things and more. I like to think of my story as one of courage, determination, and self-discovery. This journey allowed me to commune with the little girl inside of me who had always wanted more, to be seen for who she is, the many things she is, the dreamer, the wanderer, the scrapy, the smart one, the brave and whatever she feels like being… just me, Bita.
Bernardita, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been passionate about creating new things and seeing the world as a world of possibilities. My career started as an apparel designer, traveling to the fashion capitals of the world and experiencing different cultures that sparked my creativity and open-mindedness at every step. When I moved to the States, my creative bug took me on a journey to explore the deepest, most personal, and vulnerable aspects of my creative soul. I dove into art, spirituality, yoga, reiki and so much more, which was the first step in becoming an intuitive healer.
Today, I get to be the chameleon that I am! I have one thing in common – giving back to my community by helping them build their dreams, uplift their confidence, and guide their wandering spirit.
My Fashionista side!
As a designer, I help entrepreneurs turn their ideas into reality by guiding them through the design process and collaborating with them to create their brand, logos, maybe talk to manufacturers, or any other services and guidance where I can use my many years of experience in retail. It’s a fulfilling experience to see their ideas come to life and make a difference in the world through their eyes.
As a personal stylist, I help people find their personal style and make it work for them. My goal is for them to feel confident, excited about their wardrobe, and make it easy, fun, and creative to build outfits! It’s amazing to see the transformation in their confidence and how they carry themselves. you can learn more, on my website https://bita-thenoux.squarespace.com/ Insta @streets_statements
And, as an intuitive healer and yoga teacher, I provide services that are tailored to your wants and needs, whether it’s a personal session or a group one. I can lead a yoga class, meditation, or something a bit more woo woo, like tarot reading, channel messages from loved ones using my ancestral gifts, clairvoyance and clairaudience abilities to receive messages from angels and loved ones. It’s a humbling experience to be able to provide clarity, guidance, closure, resolution, and bliss to those who seek it. My website www.cosmictribes.com Insta @beepositive_tribe
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I completely understand how overwhelming it can be to allow your creative side to come out when you’re living in a world of a 9-5 jobs that are driven by results, facts and schematic thinking. It can be challenging to even recognize where your creative side is anymore. That’s why I believe it’s essential to recognize our own unique fortes and seek guidance in others as we all have different sets of skills, and it’s beautiful to understand when to reach out for support, find collaborations maybe even a mentor. I know firsthand how difficult it can be to make a business thrive and keep everything in order, from accounts to marketing, I am on the creative side and I can get lost in perfectionism or on excitement of constant new ideas without seeing them through.
Even Henry Ford, as successful as he became to be, sought support and collaboration to help his business grow. As someone who has always been passionate about creating new things and seeing the world as a world of possibilities, I believe that everyone can tap into their creative side and make a positive impact in the world, no matter what their profession may be. It’s about finding what speaks to you and using it to uplift and inspire others, whether it’s through your work or personal life.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely! I find that one of the best ways to build confidence in people’s journey is by helping them tap into their own creativity. When we’re able to express ourselves authentically and pursue our passions, it can be incredibly empowering and transformative. As someone who believes in the power of creativity, it’s a privilege to be able to support others on their journey and help them discover their own unique strengths and abilities. Whether it’s creating their own brand, healing a past wound, getting in touch with their spirituality, or enhancing their personal style, I’m here to help people feel confident in how they look, feel, and present themselves to the world.
