We were lucky to catch up with Bernard Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Bernard thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
I walked in a store one day feeling down and unease. All of sudden I looked up and spotted a person’s shirt. It read something like trust in God and everything will be ok. I knew right then and then what I wanted to do. I wanted to make people feel what I felt just by reading that shirt. It uplifted me to the point that I knew I could do that. Making shirts that made people say, by coming up with funny, serious and positive sayings that people would love to wear and enjoy.
Bernard , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Bernard Williams better known as Psway. I’m an music artist, writer and the owner of the brand Paris Swaylin. I’m from East St Louis, Illinois. I’m the seventh child out of nine siblings, and enjoyed being a part of a large family. I got into the clothing industry seriously about a few years ago. I grew up listening to hip hop, blues, reggae and gospel music just to name a few. Being a part of the hip hop culture helped me Gain the love and respect for the fashion world. Seeing all those MCs dressed in elaborate garments made me wanted to be a part. As a rapper myself, I knew that fashion played a big roll in the hip hop community, and the world. It wasn’t until I gotten older that I really fell in love with the idea of fashion and slogan shirts. At Psway Wear we provide them same cool slogan shirts that people love and enjoy to wear to this day. Psway Wear short for Paris Swaylin Wear also provides hats, bags, bikini sets and much more. I am mostly proud of being able to supply products that people learn to love and appreciate effectly. To hear how others gravitate to my products is a feeling that’s unexplainable and can never be replaced. Every product is well thought out, and I’m always open for advice and new ideas from just about anyone. My brand to me is considered a multi cultural brand. I make clothing and designs for everyone. Because, I know that it is all of us that makes this big beautiful world what it is today. Psway Wears mission is to help make the world a better place with one tshirt at a time. We are dedicated, motivated and grateful, for all of the support we’ve been receiving globally.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I must say, without social media I really doubt that Psway Wear would even exist. Posting on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and more is what gives us the attention we have now. Social media is not only good for meeting and making new friends, but it also opens up a portal for great businesses to excel. Rather it’s a post or a picture, there’s not a day that goes by, that I don’t post something about my business. Being consistent is the number one key for me. Believing in your business shows that you are not afraid, and that invites others to explore your journey with you. I’ve always told myself that, if I don’t believe in me, how do I expect others to.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
To fund my business I worked worked worked. Not only did I work a physical job, but the most important thing I did and still do, is work on myself. I believe that having any type of goal, business, dream etc. requires working on yourself. Reading, listening to motivational speakers, taking courses and just overall believing in yourself is a must. It’s been times where months will go by without making one single sale. But, what keeps me going, is knowing I have a vision that the entire world has yet to see. So, basically all it is, is work, work and more work. Eventually doors will open.
