We recently connected with Bernard Whitehead and have shared our conversation below.
Bernard , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
For me it was a long process from idea to execution. YAH HAYAH launched in late 2020 and I originally had the idea in 2017. In that time from Idea to executing was a lot of brainstorming the structure of the brand, and some procrastinating haha. Through all of that I was never really “ready”, just something I had to take action on. First thing I did was got most core designs done first, then started on the search for vendors and went from there.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Growing up I’ve always been passionate and competitive in things I love to do. Early on it was sports but transitioning from that I found a greater love for fashion that was always there. What I think what may set YAH HAYAH apart from other brands is its uniqueness. My goal making the brand was to go within and find something that connected with me on all levels. God and faith is a big part of my journey in life and I wanted to share that with the world.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivot or transitions in life for me came when I ended my basketball career. After playing 2 seasons in college I ended my career and was stuck thinking what was the next step. Coming from doing something since you were very young almost your entire life, then that ending can be difficult, it becomes apart of who you are. For me it just took time, planning and execution.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Consistency and quality are two major things I think helps build my reputation with customers. I feel that in building a brand consistency is what gives consumers the eye and relevancy of the brand. With quality I always ask myself how long will this piece of clothing last in good condition, without fading or shrinking. Most customers appreciate the quality of my brand.
