We were lucky to catch up with Bernail Fluellen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bernail, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the greatest risks I’ve taken in life was moving to a big city to pursue a job opportunity. The move was lateral and did not seem like much at the time, but it led to the greatest turning point in my life and career, where promotion after promotion took place. Never did I think I would live to experience one of the fastest growing cities in the south. This one faith move took me on a journey of discovering community, purpose and my passion as an entrepreneur, writer and creative. Looking back, if I would have remained in the environment I was in, it would have stunted my personal growth and limited my pursuit of life and business ventures. As a result of taking the risky move, my dreams of owning a company and walking into entrepreneurship finally came true. The greatest decision I could have ever made with no regrets.

Bernail, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Bernail, a creative at heart who loves expressing creativity through faith, speaking, writing, coaching, consulting, art and creative designs. From a child, I started crafting basic designs, doodling and journaling as often as I could find a pen or pencil. In grade school I had the opportunity to enter my craft designs in the National Fair and to my surprise I placed 1st/2nd, winning a monetary prize. If you asked me what I wanted to become growing up I’d always say a fashion designer, but surprisingly I chose a different route. I received a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Sciences with a concentration in Food Science. With over 13 years in Corporate America as a leader in Quality Assurance within a Fortune 500 Company, I decided to use my business acumen in Corporate America as a stepping stone to launch BeFaith Inspirations, LLC. BeFaith Inspirations is a creative brand for women and girls helping them dream purposefully and live life inspired through tech-friendly sustainable designs. Our hope is to keep our handcrafted authentic signage and life encouragement on each product bringing mothers, girls, creatives, artists, entrepreneurs and working professionals into a creative space where they feel confident and safe to embrace their natural light.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Ever since childhood I desired to one day inspire others through creativity in an authentic way. Through a foundation of faith and support from my community I’ve been able to explore new cutting edge concepts and ideas. BeFaith Inspirations was created for the everyday woman, girl, mother, boss lady entrepreneur, homemaker, working professional, creative and artist to release expressions of faith, healing, encouragement, comfort, hope, joy and inspiration through sustainable tech-friendly creative designs. We help creative women and girls like myself dream big again. When women and girls are able to tap into this vision, they will not only be transformed, but will also transform the world. Life pivots, job transition, trauma and grief can leave an astronomical residue in hearts worldwide, but there is hope and light in the darkest of life moments. We are that brand to spread unforgettable inspirational expressions into the hearts of women and girls globally. Local and abroad community initiatives are also a vital sweet treat to us. At the end of the day, we will always encourage you and your friends to “be you, have faith and inspire always.”

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I’ve had to unlearn was a life perspective of thinking you can only thrive and be successful in a large environment as you are establishing your career and vision as an entrepreneur. The exact opposite happened to me when I said yes to a lateral career move. I transitioned from a larger environment into a smaller one where I was very well nurtured, watered and eventually replanted into a new thriving field of opportunity; leading me to greater life fulfillment and purpose. This one move which didn’t seem like much at the time positioned me for a total heart transformation and dreams fulfilled in many areas of my life. Prayerfully, I chose to wait and move by faith with lots of peace in my heart even though I didn’t see all of what was ahead at the time. I’ve learned through this process that stretching yourself while stepping into waters of discomfort often lead to experiences of greater comfort. In the end, these moments collide you with hopeful relief, contentment, confidence and innovative creativity along with new found inner peace and joy unexplainable.
