We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Berlina Washington. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Berlina below.
Berlina, appreciate you joining us today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
Yes, I attended my very first vendor event on MLK day at Huston-Tillotson University. The event was coming to an end and Coach Rose Smith approached my table and asked about my brand. I explained my why, my story and my hope. She looked at me and replied “Don’t give up, greater is coming.”
Psalms 46:5 “God is within her, she will not fall”
Berlina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a trauma-related awareness advocate, I am using my platform to share my personal story and those of other women.
I believe that these sorts of experiences relating to trauma are becoming more common. There is such a strong need for representation for women that have been affected by trauma-related experiences. I want to serve as that representative and encourage, empower, and inspire women around the world.
My biggest hope is to help women find ways to create healthy boundaries, gain confidence, and learn to find themselves during this process.
I currently have a podcast where I work with other women from many different backgrounds to share their stories. As my brand is fairly new, I have been making connections and traveling to venues to meet women and share my story behind “Within Her”.
Within Her was created as a safe space for women who have experienced both childhood and adulthood trauma.
My main passion and reasoning behind my brand was because of the fact that I myself am a survivor, and I resonate with how that trauma can impact myself and others. I made it my mission to help them overcome these experiences by providing a safe space and creating an empowered community with access to education, awareness and other services. By sharing my story I am letting other women and survivors know that they are not alone.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
From seeing violence in my home as a child to being sexually abused and mentally abused in my younger years, I knew that I wanted to be the change. The change that would inspire, encourage, and empower women in similar situations. As a trauma-related awareness advocate, I am using my platform to share my personal story and those of other women.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Harboring unforgiveness has been a lesson that I’ve had to unlearn. I’ve learned that not forgiving continues to give the other person control over my emotions. Throughout my journey, I’ve learned to forgive. I will continue to work in my healing from generational trauma even with the birth of my brand I am still healing, learning and growing.
