We recently connected with Berangere Altier and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Berangere, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.

That dull period during covid has made many of us photographers just either give up on their business or change it, make it evolve into something you could have never imagined it would be. I would say I am more the latter. When I lost all my clients I decided to redefine my business and look to adapt which has made me more open to change and more open to growing my business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Berangere Altier. I started shooting photographs on an old analogue 35 mm canon camera with a very basic lens. I learned the art of the dark room back in college and film photography is my first love. My first job as a photographer out of college was as a sports photographer shooting swimming competitions all over California, so I quickly had to learn about the world of digital cameras. I then went on to event and corporate photography but I remain very close to my film cameras which I often us for personal projects or for very specific clients. What I am most proud of are the way I adapt to different situations and how I have evolved my business tenfolds due to the harsh times that we have all had to experience during and post Covid.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

When covid hit, all my photography gigs went out the window. I had to figure out a new way to make money. I ended up working as a baker in a an ice cream shop for about a year and that is how I ended up doing way more food photography on the side. I got inspired by this critical time and spun it to create a new type of clientele.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

I try to keep myself motivated by doing my own personal artistic projects. They don’t always succeed or end well but they keep the mind growing. It’s always good to do something different and challenge yourself.
