We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Benny Ruiz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Benny, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At Ben Hurt, we believe that everyone has faced their own battles and risen stronger. Our mission is to create streetwear that embodies this shared experience—the resilience, authenticity, and grit that unite us all.
“Everyone’s Ben Hurt 🖤” isn’t just a tagline; it’s a reminder that we’re all hustling, grinding, and pushing through the challenges that life throws at us. We craft apparel that speaks to the streets, inspiring confidence, fueling self-expression, and empowering individuals to face life boldly and stay true to themselves.
Ben Hurt is more than a brand—it’s a testament to strength, a movement that champions the beauty of staying driven, staying real, and embracing every raw moment.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Benny Ruiz, the founder of Ben Hurt, a streetwear brand that’s all about merging culture, grit, and authenticity. My journey began with a passion for style and the stories behind what we wear. I wanted to create a brand that stands for more than just fashion—it’s about resilience, empowerment, and staying true to who you are.
At Ben Hurt, we create pieces that inspire confidence and connection, embodying the idea that every struggle shapes us. Our tagline, “Everyone’s Ben Hurt 🖤,” reflects our belief that we all have scars, but they’re proof of our strength. What sets us apart is our commitment to storytelling—infusing emotion and drive into every piece.
I’m proud to see people from all backgrounds resonate with Ben Hurt, wearing it as a symbol of their journey. For those who push past limits and embrace life with style, Ben Hurt is here to inspire and empower.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was that “Ls” stand for losses. In reality, “Ls” represent lessons learned. Life constantly teaches us, and the real challenge is whether we choose to be good students. There’s always something new to learn, and what truly matters is how we apply that knowledge to fuel our growth and success.

Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the most pivotal moments in my life was when I stopped overthinking and started taking action. We often get trapped in our minds, letting our thoughts and past experiences hold us back. One day, I made the decision to trust myself and tune out the noise and doubt. While it sounds simple, it’s anything but easy—it’s one of the hardest things to master. Even now, it’s something I continue to work on every day.
This shift changed the whole trajectory of my brand, but most importantly, my life.
