We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bennie Pearce. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bennie below.
Bennie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
In 2010, I founded Phillie-BOP Productions, a music production and recording label focused on returning to the future of “classic” music, serving as the premier destination for “The Future Home of Classic Music.” In 2020, Phillie-BOP Productions teamed up and launched its first international release with singer/songwriter/independent recording artist Rina Chanel with debut hit single, “Worthy,” on January 16. The single earned the No. #1 chart position on several music charts, Spotify playlists and platforms. The continued partnership created follow-ups such as “More Than Enough” “Made,” “Sweetest of Melody” and “E.S.P.” which have all been positioned at the #1 spot on various charts, as well as in the Top 10 and Top 20 categories.
Bennie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a musician/producer/songwriter and record label owner. I am a Philadelphia native. I grew up in North Philadelphia, and I was immersed in an abundance of diverse music genre samplings during my childhood, long before I discovered I had any musical talent. Regardless of which family household I was visiting, music was always playing on the record player, or on the radio. I would be captured throughout the day and night with music of the 60s, 70s and 80s, ranging from jazz, blues and soul, to acoustic music. My music palette and influences ranged from the likes of Nat King Cole, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, The Carpenters, The Sound of Philadelphia, Weather Report, Earth, Wind & Fire, Babyface, and so many others.
I began playing professionally as a bassist at the age of 15, playing with various local bands, as well as established house bands. I would continue my musical aspirations and passion throughout my life, even during my 24 years in the U.S. Navy, regardless of where I was stationed, I would be part of the local music scene. I had always experimented with my hidden curiosity and passion of songwriting and production, but it wouldn’t materialize until years later.
After retiring from military service, I resided in the Washington, DC area and began playing with local bands. In 2018, I performed at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival in Cape May, NJ with a local Washington, D.C. band, sharing the
event with “smooth jazz with the touch of cool jazz” trumpeter and headliner Chris Botti.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My immediate objective from day one launch of Phillie-BOP Productions was to bring back music that touched people through meaningful and memorable musical arrangements and lyrics, and what has helped me build the reputation of Phillie-BOP Productions is total quality in production, arrangements, and lyrics. Our brand exudes quality in all ways from our social media postings and pictures, our Website, to our interviews. The professional reputation of your business is always on display no matter how large or small the interaction is with the public.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes, the two books of many that served as the catalysts for my shift in thinking and elevated my sense of self confidence was “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covey, and “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David J. Schwartz.
