We recently connected with Bennett Litwin and have shared our conversation below.
Bennett, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Frackers, a feature film, was created with my son to inspire and entertain while delivering a subtle, deep point of view. We wrote, produced, funded, cast, the film. My partner and son Adam, delivered a wonderful, comedic, yet real performance along with a beautiful cast of real humans and aliens.
Bennett, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After I finally graduated from a top business school, which included a three year intermission, I waded into business as a salesman, broker of commodities and real estate, where I eventually found financial success. I wrote and published my first book in 1990 WHERE EXACTLY IS HEAVEN, and enjoyed the process. With moderate success, I was encouraged to keep writing. In the 1990’s I was fortunate enough to have a mentor in screenwriting, Larry Postel, and found I preferred screenwriting format more than prose. Plus, movies have a wider audience.
I love movies. I like books. Hence, I became a screenwriter and eventual producer after I made enough money in real estate to produce my first movie. FRACKERS, is a sci-fi comedy about the afterlife, with aliens at a summer camp, unique, fun and a different cinema experience than I’d ever viewed.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What can I add to the biosphere of humanity? How can I assist other people in their thinking, living, and experience of life? With an exception or three, what I write exposes light on viewpoints I haven’t seen in film or in books. I prefer comedy as a way to open up hearts and minds.
Does my art enhance the collective consciousness or throw more junk and negativity into our discourse? Do we need another murder, hate, or anger fueled piece of art? I want to be remembered as an artist who promoted love, fun, laughter, heart and comradeship.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I love being an artist, free to create universes and stories. Imagination has no limits. The fun in constructing worlds and characters makes me smile as I write this sentence. How do people become who they are now and who they will be.
Ideas.
Relationships with others.
Nature
Gratitude
Laughter
Love
Shared projects towards a goal, which in the movie biz, is telling a story through action and dialogue.
I love writing and producing. Do what you love and the days and nights are great. Hard work? Sure. Rewards? Sometimes.
