We were lucky to catch up with Bennett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Bennett, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents have done many things right, but one thing that always stands out to me is that they always encouraged me to follow whatever it is I wanted to do. They taught me that if I’m going to do something, it has to be done right, that hard work is important, and to give 100% or don’t do it. So today with my music career I take those lessons and the ability to grow and apply that dedication x1000.
I remember this time in 2019 I had this whole trip planned out where I was going to go out to Las Vegas to shoot this new music video project of mine, but at the end of it, nothing got accomplished. Needless to say, I was frustrated. I felt let down, I let myself down, and like I had wasted time and money. But when I got back home, without hesitation, my dad helped me build a set in our basement and helped me shoot 4 music videos in 3 days. It was that don’t give up moment for me.
And then my mom, when I was growing up, was a freelance medical writer and she would be awake working till the sun came up. She hustled for her clients and always got the job done. I think back on that now and how her work ethic has very much become instilled in me.
So I think seeing how much they have impacted me has set me up for a great future. They really did do right by showing me how to be a loving, successful, and respectful man. I’m very blessed to have such wonderful parents.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Bennett and I’m a Pop R&B singer/songwriter. I also produce and engineer my own work in my home studio. I grew up in New York City, which was a wonderful experience as a young artist. I first found my love for music through Mariah Carey at 7 years old and hearing her voice made me say I want to do that. Some of my musical influences include Justin Bieber, Drake, and Mariah Carey, I’ve been listening to a lot of SZA and BLACKPINK lately which has been bringing a new influence into my current songwriting and producing. Right now I have about 10 songs that span a variety of genres. There is something for everyone.
As a member of the LGBTQ community, I’m proud to be open about being transgender. I strive to make a difference for my fellow trans men of the world. My social media in particular is filled with different videos where I discuss certain topics relative to being a transgender man for those who may have questions or curiosity. For me, it’s all about positivity and love, and showing others, not just transgender men, but all people, that life is a beautiful place to be. I believe love is for all of us and that there is someone out there for each and every one of you. And while we may not know when the time comes for us to meet that love, I aim to bring you on a journey
while listening to one of my songs that’ll make you feel comforted and understood.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I started my music career, I was in a relationship with this girl and a lot of my career was tied to her family because they “represented” me. In 2016, I not only made the decision to transition but the girl I was with, she and I parted ways. So I had to start over completely, from scratch, as an entirely different person on my own. I had several moments during the first 6 months where I felt like calling it quits with my music. My voice was changing from the hormones, I wasn’t yet comfortable with my voice, and I had to now navigate a career that I didn’t know anything about from a business/production standpoint.
So I just decided that I was going to not only keep going but learn how to do everything I once had a team of people to do for me. I learned how to record, mix, and master music in Pro Tools and Abelton. I learned how to grow my music career to the point where I couldn’t manage it myself anymore. I put myself through music business courses online and read as many books as possible. I learned how to produce my own beats for my music. I learned how to shoot music videos and edit them so I could keep it all in-house. So in the midst of defeat, I took what I was able to do and didn’t give up. Had I not applied myself how I did back then, I don’t think I’d have a career today.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Sometimes I think the world forgets what it means to really love someone or to show someone a random act of kindness. For some reason, the world has become a very negative place when there is some much to be excited for. So for me, what I’m trying to accomplish with my lyrics is reminding the listener there is still love out there for them. There is still happiness waiting for you and after the storm one may be in, comes this beautiful array of hope and joy. That’s what I aim to achieve, is to make someone believe in love again, and believe that it is possible for them to have whatever it is they want out of life. And then outside of love, I know what it’s like to be a transgender man in a world where it’s scary to be yourself and if I can provide hope and genuine care to those who may be feeling out of place, that’s my goal as well. Life and love are the greatest gifts God has given to us and if I can also bring a little positivity back into someone’s life through song, that’s all I could ask for.
