We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Benjamin Spellman . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Benjamin below.
Hi Benjamin , thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learn the craft by studying music daily. Drawing influence from different genres and keeping up with what sounds are in currently. Not only that. but actively expressing my ideas out loud or on paper, even it means recording an impromptu voice memo. Looking back, I could have been more open with sharing my ideas publicly, often times my own over thinking got in the way.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started writing and recording music when I was 16, just for fun with some of my friends in high school. We may have not known it yet, but that sparked the passion for music in me and I knew this was something I wanted to keep doing. Eventually with more time, I started to take my music more serious and hone in on my songwriting. That led to my first single release, “Lovely” in 2018. I have since they released my debut album “Rise of the Dragon”, and I have new music coming very soon this year.
Throughout my journey I’m most proud of creating music that represents real life situations people can relate to and being a voice for the people who don’t have one. It’s what continues to motivate me everyday, and I intend to use my voice to inspire, uplift, and spread love.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
When the recording is finished, and I’m able to listen to the final product on the way home in the car. That car ride test is the ultimate vibe check to let me know whether the songs I just recorded are a hit or miss.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
In the times we’re living in, many people have different ideas of what being an artist is like. While it may appear as a nice, flashy lifestyle on Instagram to some, the reality of it is that it’s a serious grind for anyone to have any type of success in music. And sometimes the rewards are not always realized right away. It takes lots of sacrifices, and a determination to keep getting better and keep investing in your career. I’m still on the grind myself, so I got more to do and I’m looking forward to it.
