We were lucky to catch up with Benjamin Gayatin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Benjamin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share a customer success story with us?
The customer success in this case was all about creating meaningful connections with the community and using creative marketing strategies. By listening to customers, engaging with them online and offline, and forming partnerships with other local businesses, Ben Scoops turned their situation around and transformed into a beloved local favorite.
This story highlights the power of customer engagement, creativity, and perseverance in overcoming challenges in a competitive market.
Benjamin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Ben Scoops is owned and managed by Ben Gayatin with the support of his wife, Carmela and their two sons. Ben was born and raised in the Philippines but has been based in the Los Angeles area for the last 30 years. One of the things that Ben (and his sweet tooth) had always missed about home was Filipino ice cream in distinctly local flavors, like mango and ube (purple yam), which was why he was thrilled to discover Mitchell’s on a trip to San Francisco in the early 2000s.
One bite of Mitchell’s best-selling mango flavor and Ben was hooked. He then learned that Mitchell’s mango ice cream was made with mangoes flown in from the Philippines. No wonder the taste brought him home.
For the last 20 years, Ben had been making the 400-mile drive to Mitchell’s in the Bay Area to satisfy his ice cream cravings. Now, other Mitchell’s fans in Southern California no longer have to travel far as Ben Scoops becomes the first ice cream shop to bring Mitchell’s Ice Cream to their doorstep.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Ben’s journey was filled with determination, creativity, and a deep belief in his product. By combining personal savings, crowdfunding, loans, and careful budgeting, he was able to turn his dream of owning an ice cream shop into a reality.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
