We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Benj Yoblick. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Benj below.
Benj, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
We have some cool perspectives to drawl from as a band. We are from 68 years to 24 years old. Our music really comes from a place that isn’t sure how to get in line with everything else.
But at the same time interacts with other frequencies.
We do feel a bit alone in genre some times but end up getting to see even more awesome bands in different worlds so it’s cool.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Venn Sung has band members that are more like friends and Brothers from Another who look out for each other the best we can.
We have Bruce on the drums. We call him Tic Toc.
Steven on Guitars keeping it grooving
Kordal is causing excitement with his Lead guitar fire.
Benj pounces on the bass guitar and rocks the vocals.
Music for a few of us is a way to process our pain and trauma and turn it into a hope that we can share
which really helps us endure. But also because it’s just super jammy and fun to rock out together with our buds.
It’s the type of situation were we might play a whole show and then run back to the studio to play a couple songs again together at the end of the night, because we can’t help it.
We have to play like a wolf needs to howl.
And we have something to Howl about: adding positive frequencies to not let the negative overwhelm us. We aren’t hear to complain or finger point, we would like to vibe on our part and responsibility.
We try and walk it in our lives as much as we may fail, and then add a bunch of instruments hitting a physical frequency inspired by connection with hope and drums, bass and guitar, and we have a Band.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Sure! We were helping with a sound system at an event with a full audience and a bunch of bands at a small venue. The power went out. They gave up. Owners were gone.
But a small team persisted to the point of multiple people moving a giant fridge with no light and finding the circuit breaker.
The Event happened and 5 years of awesome events happened from it.
It was pivotal in learning that sometimes not giving up and being guided by fellowship can lead to awesome things.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The Seven Lessons of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey. The book helped with implementing accountability with when you pick up a stick you are accountable for the whole thing including consequences, amending, and accountability.
Also our own circle of influence and working there as a priority.
