We were lucky to catch up with Benedicte De Boysson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Benedicte , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind Benedicte de Boysson jewelry is to showcase the true French “Savoir-Faire” of the “Haute Joaillerie” in a jewelry piece wearable everyday. Each piece is custom hand made from A to Z by a professional artisan in her French atelier. France is fortunate to have a knowledge that has been transmitted through centuries and generations and benefit from an incredible craftmanship.
Benedicte truly wanted to be part of the transmission process and contribute to keeping this knowledge alive. In her opinion, “real luxury” needs to be redefined. Through her pieces, she tries to reveal quiet and timeless luxury creations. Her collections emphasize an everlasting elegance, incredible quality and everyday versatility.
In a world that is slowly awakening back to who we truly are and where we are rediscovering the properties of colored stones, she also wanted to combine the luxury world with the spiritual world. Each piece features special stones that carry a meaning and “healing properties”.
When creating with incredible joy, she feels she can share special energies through her designs that can help others feel more in alignment with who they truly are when wearing one of her jewelry pieces. She likes to think that her designs can operate like talismans.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Beìneìdicte de Boysson is a jewelry designer who created a brand out of her name. She makes limited edition jewlery pieces out of 18kt gold with diamonds and hand-carved colored stones. Her specialty is Long Sautoir Necklaces with matching pieces to complete the look. All her pieces are in limited edition or quantities. Her creativity is influenced by her life between Paris, Tahiti, Russia, Dubai and her time spent in Asia.
Benedicte’s inspiration is also fueled by her French aristocratic heritage that she uses with a sophisticated yet modern twist.
Beìneìdicte de Boysson had the aspiration to combine the beauty, the nature of stones, and their “healing virtues” with the high-end jewelry luxury world through her design.
To ensure a high-end standard and to align with her root, Beìneìdicte de Boysson produces all her pieces in France.
Beìneìdicte de Boysson has been working in the luxury industry for more than 14 years. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science from Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, she started her career at the renowned Christies Auction house in Geneva to later joined Chopard luxury group where she developed the jewelry brand in Russia and opened their Middle East subsidiary in Dubai.
Drawing on her experience as a buyer and consultant for retailers with other well-known brands, she decided to take the step and start her own high-end jewelry brand – Beìneìdicte de Boysson.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
Benedicte de Boysson is a powerful testimony that with commitment, hard work and dedication everything is possible. Indeed, initially, Benedicte’s expertise relied mainly in international luxury business development but she had no deep knowledge on how to manufacture jewelry pieces.
She had to take a step of learning a new field and understanding a whole new world. After investigating, digging into her network and trusting the universe, she encountered slowly but surely the right people who could embark on this adventure with her. Along the way, she learnt and discovered a beautiful but very hard, challenging and competitive world.
Each piece is designed by Benedicte de Boysson herself and technically developed by French artisans in France.
Each piece is unique. “I am proud to be working with exceptional, talented and skilled professionals that take pride and love in creating exquisite and delicate pieces” shares Benedicte with her clients and retailors. “I really wanted to be surrounded by Artisans who are inspired in creating the piece with their heart and soul. I have no interest in making big quantities and looking only at numbers”. We are all human beings with heart and souls that are crying inside to be listened to.
The “Bijoutier” works on a piece from A to Z and guarantees an amazing quality with an incredible level of perfection. Benedicte’s desire is to be surrounded by people who are passionate about their art and who enjoy every minute of the creation of the piece. Benedicte de Boysson likes to describe herself as the gatekeeper of the French Savoir- Faire in the art of jewelry making.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Benedicte had to unlearn everything that she was told from a young age: School, society, siblings, friends. Being not really aware of what she truly wanted to become and what she deeply yearned to achieve, she followed the “regular” path of studying, being employed etc… As we all mostly do. She learnt along the way that we are giving out our own power (very frequently unconsciously) to people who think they know better how our path should be fulfilled. “Until one day, you embrace it and realize that you carry your own power, will, consciousness and that you should be self-cherishing this whole flame inside you every day. Then the revelation happens”, she says.
She took then a leap of faith and decided to challenge the status quo. She decided to take a new path with no guarantee as to where it would lead her or bring her. She dropped her safety net and moved to an unknown country – the USA. Here, everything was new to her and a total new adventure.
In addition to settling in one of the most challenging jewelry market in the world, Benedicte finds it fulfilling that she was also capable of creating a brand that represents her values and showcase the French savoir faire. She is also thrilled that she was able to design collections from scratch and learn through the process. She definitely placed her heart and soul into her art and could not be more excited to share her passion with clients. It is true that with time, faith, passion, love, dedication, persistence and hard work everything is possible.
She had gone beyond her limits and she is happy to consider herself a self made designer who discovered her own talent.
