We were lucky to catch up with Ben Wolfe recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ben thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At Wolfe Tennis Performance, my mission is simple: help tennis players level up their game by focusing on what truly moves the needle—mental strength, fitness, and overall health.
I didn’t take the traditional route to becoming a 5.0 self-taught player. I didn’t grow up in an academy or take expensive private lessons. Instead, I focused on what most players ignore—building a resilient mindset, training my body to stay strong and injury-free, and taking full ownership of my development. That journey wasn’t just about tennis; it transformed my life.
That’s why I do what I do. Tennis isn’t just a game—it’s a proving ground for life. The discipline, problem-solving, and mental toughness required on the court translate directly into handling challenges off the court. My clients don’t just become better tennis players; they become fitter, healthier, and mentally stronger individuals who are ready to take on anything life throws at them.
I work with players who are committed—not just to tennis but to becoming the best version of themselves. That’s the deeper purpose behind Wolfe Tennis Performance—to empower players to take control of their performance, their mindset, and ultimately, their lives.

Ben, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Coach Ben Wolfe, a self-taught 5.0 tennis player and the founder of Wolfe Tennis Performance. My journey into tennis wasn’t traditional—I didn’t grow up in an academy, and I didn’t take expensive private lessons. Instead, I figured out how to improve by focusing on the things most players ignore: mental strength, fitness, and injury prevention. That approach not only helped me level up my own game, but it also showed me how to help others do the same.
I was always fascinated by how athletes improve. While others looked for shortcuts or quick fixes, I studied what actually makes a player better—the ability to stay in the game longer, outlast opponents mentally, and develop a body that can handle the demands of competitive tennis. I experimented on myself, tested what worked and what didn’t, and built a system that helped me break through levels without formal coaching.
Once I started helping other players using these methods, I saw huge transformations—not just in their tennis skills, but in their fitness, confidence, and overall well-being. That’s when I realized I had something unique to offer.
Through Wolfe Tennis Performance, I coach dedicated adult tennis players (40+) who want to win more matches by focusing on the areas that give them the biggest edge:
✅ Mental Strength & Resilience – Teaching players how to handle pressure, stay focused, and stay in the fight even when things aren’t going their way.
✅ Fitness & Injury Prevention – Helping players build strength, endurance, and mobility so they can move better, hit harder, and stay injury-free.
✅ Tactical Strategy & Smart Play – Teaching players how to use smart decision-making to win points more efficiently rather than just hitting the ball harder.
Most tennis coaching focuses on technique and drills, but very few coaches address the full picture of what makes a great tennis player. I take a holistic approach, helping my clients become physically stronger, mentally tougher, and strategically smarter—so they can win more matches without wasting time on things that don’t move the needle.
Another key difference? I’ve done it myself. I didn’t just read about these methods in a book—I used them to go from self-taught beginner to a 5.0 competitor. That means I know exactly what works (and what doesn’t) for players who want to improve without relying on expensive lessons or endless hours on the court.
The biggest reward is seeing my clients transform—not just as tennis players, but as healthier, more confident individuals. Whether it’s:
Nick, a 5.0 player, who lost 30 pounds and became a stronger, faster athlete.Laurie, a 3.5 player, who gained the mental toughness to handle pressure in matches.
Shawn, a 3.5 player, who got down to 200 pounds for the first time in decades.
Matthew, a 3.5 player, who built muscle while losing fat and now dominates with a stronger game.
These aren’t just tennis wins—they’re life wins. My goal isn’t just to help players hit better forehands. It’s to help them become stronger, healthier, and more confident versions of themselves—on and off the court.
If you’re serious about improving, I can help you develop the winning edge—not through gimmicks, but through real, proven methods that make a lasting impact. I don’t work with players who just want to “sharpen their skills” a little—I work with driven competitors who are ready to take their game (and their life) to the next level.
If that sounds like you, let’s get to work.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I used to believe that the more I practiced, the better I’d get. So I spent hours on the court, hitting ball after ball, thinking volume was the key. But I wasn’t making real progress—I was just reinforcing bad habits and wearing myself down.
I saw players who practiced less than me but improved faster. That forced me to rethink my approach. The truth is, quality beats quantity. Instead of just hitting more balls, I started training with purpose, focusing on fitness, and being intentional with every session.
That shift changed everything. I improved faster, stayed healthier, and got better results with less wasted effort. Now, I teach my clients the same lesson—it’s not about how much you practice, but how well you train.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
The best part of what I do is building a transformational relationship with my clients. I’m there the whole time, making sure they stay on track, push through challenges, and get real results.
I stay connected through direct check-ins, accountability, and ongoing support. My clients know they can reach out anytime for guidance, motivation, or a course correction when needed.
When they win, I win. Their success is proof that the right mindset, training, and consistency lead to real change—on and off the court.
