We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ben Peters. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ben below.
Hi Ben, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I went on a sports missions trip my freshman year of college, and it totally changed my life. I loved how I could use a gift God gave me to further His kingdom, on top of making a difference in the peoples lives on the trip. A truly win-win scenario. At this point in my life I had no idea what I wanted to do for my career, but as a freshman in college I knew I had time.
Fast forward to my senior year of college. My entire senior year, I was planning on playing pro basketball in Costa Rica (It sounds way cooler than it actually is). Because of this, my entire senior year, I wasn’t job searching. Well, one week before graduation that pro team reneged on their contract, so I was left jobless. I moved into my parents basement, when an opportunity to go on another sports missions trip popped up. After that trip I heard God very clearly say to me “You will build a business that will help fund missions in the future.” And that’s where the name “Mission Real Estate Group” was born.

Ben, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was the son of a real estate investor. So growing up, I was always walking through houses and helping him manage properties. When I found out I wasn’t going to be playing pro basketball, I found a crash landing job cold calling for a law firm. After 6 months at that job, I realized I hated my life, and as a 22 year old, I was too young to hate my life. So an opportunity came up to join a real estate team and I got my real estate license.
I help people buy and sell homes though out the Twin Cities area. What sets me apart from most realtors is my referrals. The average agent gets 15% of their business from referrals. I get 98% of business from referrals. In the words of Walt Disney “When you do something excellently, word tends to get out about it.” I decided to provide above excellent service in an industry where below average service is the norm. I love being able to help my clients, and then become friends with them after the transaction is done.
When I found the statistic that only 2% or real estate agents give back in some way, it broke my heart. So from the start, I wanted to create a culture of generosity at MREG. I am proud of Mission Real Estate Group because one of our core tenants is being wildly generous. 20% of our profits go to missions organizations, and I’m very proud to say that we have given close to $300,000 to various organizations in the past 3 years.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
To celebrate people! Majority of realtors spend a lot of money buying leads. How I have grown my business is by giving my clients experiences through client appreciation events, sports games, boat cruises, and parties in the park (Just to name a few)! When I got into the business I learned that most realtors don’t talk to their clients face to face ever again after they close a deal. That was astounding to me! So I made it my goal to try and talk face to face with every single one of my clients at least once a year. And I have stayed true to that ever since 2015
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Very similar to the approach above, but my goal with my clients is to make them friends. Because no one wants to be “sold” on a house. I don’t see myself as a salesman. I see myself as an educator. I try and educate my clients through a transaction. And once your clients trust you, they become friends. And everyone loves shopping with friends!
