Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ben Ivey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ben , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I grew up around music my entire life. My mother is a concert pianist and teacher. A melody has always been running through my head. My dad was the audio guy at my church growing up. He was the one who first sparked my interest in audio. Back then though, I had no clue I could have a career in it. It wasn’t until several years later while working on my debut record with my mentor, Mike O Brien, did I realize I had a shot.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m an audio engineer / producer / consultant from ATL. Currently I tour and mix for a variety of national acts, corporate events and churches. I provide FOH Engineer work, PM, Studio recording and consulting. The main thing I’m proud of is my family. I have the greatest wife in the entire world and the sweetest little girl, Scarlett. My goal is to provide the best audio experience for all that I come in contact with. Whether it’s a bar, church, theatre or stadium, I got your back and you’ll be happy!
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Yes! I wished I went to trainings / certifications earlier. Go online! Search the manufacturers. Watch all the videos, go to the shop, ask a local producer if you can be his or her intern. Makes all the difference!
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best thing you can do for an artist is be there for them. They’re human just like you, they make mistakes. They have bad days and good days. Be that person they HAVE to have around. If they don’t feel good at a show or studio session and you can help them, do it.
