Bellogod , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Personally, speaking from my perspective and personal experiences I would say it takes 3 things to be successful. First and foremost you need a dream which is also called in the business world target , secondly you need a partner to help you achieve the dream and lastly you’ll need a mentor, someone who is already at where you wanna be so he can guide you through the steps to reach where you wanna be that’s all from my point of view .
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
BELOVED DELADEM WEGBE , is a Ghanaian Afrobeat artist, song writer and record producer who is professionally known as BELLOGOD I was born and raised by my parents (JOHN YAVA WEGBE ) which is my dad and (PATIENCE GAKPETOR) which is also my mom in a town called [Keta] on the 3rd of September 2003 in the Volta region of Ghana. I stayed with my grandmom in the volta region where I schooled up to SHS level when I left Keta to Accra,I first attended Shalom Shalom Preparatory School ) for my basic education and also move further and completed Threetown Senior High ,
I discovered my musical abilities when I was in [JHS1] in the volta region of Ghana but it wasn’t that serious, it was just about doing freestyles and rapping to my colleagues in class. But actual serious music started for me in [SHS1] when I went on a battle with one of my mates in school and he won me, it made me work more harder and learnt more skills in music which I apply to my craft now.. I wrote more songs and rehearsed more just to win the guy that won me in the battle but going on I realized that I learnt a lot more than I thought I would and I started getting good comments from people around me whenever I do freestyles .
◦ I recorded my first song in [SHS2] where I had to wake up early in the morning and go to a recording studio close to our house to sweep a sound engineers room just to hang around to see how people record when they come to studio .
I recorded my own song when I was done learning how to record , and I was very impressed though I knew my parent don’t approve of me doing music at that point in time , because they believed musician are bad people in terms of their lifestyle.
◦ It got to a time which I couldn’t believe that my first song was making waves and everyone was commenting that, that particular song was for [ REMA] , an A-list artist in Nigeria who made a lot of hit songs and waves .
That feeling alone triggered the decision of me making my music a life time career and here I am now. Signed to CAPTURED ATL RECORDS and we have a lot of projects to drop this year. My first EP containing 5 hot songs will be release on March 21st 2024. Looking forward to release more hits.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Everyone and their separate problems and the way they go around it to be able to solve it , but in terms of problem solving or finding solutions to problems , I’ve realized most ways of solving problem in every cases is always similar . Being an African raised kid from the west coast, there’s always this perception of us going through school if you want to live a good life and create a happy family, because by doing that you’ll also get a good and a better paying job that can take of your family when you create one , so for me choosing not to do things the way it’s been done by going through the school procedure and also wanted to do music instead was kinda weird to everyone and for that matter , not everyone supported me and my whole idea of choosing that path for myself..
I don’t know the reason behind it But I stood my ground and also by doing that you’ll be tagged a disrespectful and a strange kid because you’re doing things the other way round so you’ll be separated from every other kid because they believed you’ll pollute their minds ..
But one thing I’ll say I’m proud of today and will tell every other person in this same situation to do is to know what you want , make sure it’s a legit way of making it through life and I tell you all you’ll need is 100% focus , no distractions along the road and also keep moving if you’re not seeing any changes any sooner .. I promise you that’s the right path because that path belongs to you when you suceed or finally make it , I’ll tag that as the best feeling in the world and can’t be compared to anything .. It’s a way of overcoming your fears ..
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ll say it’s the perception that if you don’t go through school you’ll not make it in life .. There was one time I had to forget the dreams of becoming the Artist and the person I always dreamt about because it was tagged as a bad route of making it in life according to the beliefs in my town where I came from but going forward in life I decided to snub all that and pursue my dreams no matter where it’s going to end up at , Today I can proudly tell you I don’t regret that decision and the day I took it ..
