We were lucky to catch up with Bella Noelle Jordan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Bella Noelle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I was about six months old my mommy and I started traveling extensively and she wanted to have a way for me to remember all of my adventures. We were traveling to North Carolina for her college class reunion and she asked one of my godmothers if she would be willing to write my adventures down so that I would always remember them. Since my mommy was already focused on literacy with me my godmother decided to take it a little further and write books that are all about me and make them available to the public and that is how we got started. For my first birthday, my mommy gifted me with the cover of my first book as well as my business and she and my god mommy worked hard to get the book ready to be launched for my second birthday. On December 18, 2019, I became the youngest, published, best-selling author. Not only did this allow my mommy to help create a space for me in the children’s book arena but it also allowed me the opportunity to start and grow a business. Most people want to know how this is possible at such a young age and why my mommy would even do this. Well, they actually allow my input on everything, and when I am not feeling something they usually scratch it but my mommy is also an entrepreneur and she wanted me to learn about entrepreneurship early.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Bella Jordan a four-year-old model, author, literacy advocate, and mini mogul.
I have a love for learning and adventure that has been the driving force behind my published book series entitled, “The Adventures of Bella Noelle.” It is within this series that I explore subject matter like dementia, college, and breast cancer through books entitled, “Bella’s Big Wish,” “They Say She Has Dementia, I Say She’s Perfect,” “Bella Goes to College,” and “Let’s Go for a Walk.”
As a brand ambassador and mini mogul, I have had a myriad of opportunities that have taken me all across the country to discover, define, and develop my gifts and talents. From the east coast to the west coast, I have made it a point to document my travels and use these experiences as inspiration for my future endeavors.
Along with being the youngest published best-selling author, I have most recently been named the youngest certified speaker after completing the Young Moguls Speakers Academy. This along with being an ambassador for Young Biz Kidz Day keeps me actively involved in community events, helps me develop my entrepreneurial skills, and enables me to increase my advocacy skills especially when it comes to reading which I love.
In my free time, I always make time for adventure as I spend time with family and friends, doing gymnastics, participating in social media challenges, and reading books with characters that are culturally relevant and diverse.
My future plans include releasing a line of educational products that promote literacy, and fluency in math and reading. I also plan to create a magazine specifically designed for amazing toddlers like myself.
Even at my age, I understand that life is one big huge adventure and I am definitely ready for the ride.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
Yes, I sell my books on Amazon and we chose to do so for a number of reasons including but not limited to allowing us to get our brand in front of the masses. It also allows us to have our books printed and shipped at a great rate and we can still sell them on our website. Some of the cons would be that Amazon takes a sizable percentage of the sales, some times the quality of the product may not be the best, although it has not happened to us we have heard horror stories of consumers receiving books that have their covers but the interior is of a different book.
We also sell our books on our site and that works well for us, especially during a new release as we have established an audience that we are able to market to without having to send them to Amazon. I do not think there is a con to this because we love providing autographed copies of our books to our customers and we are able to do that from our website.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Most recently I was afforded an opportunity to participate in a leadership retreat in St. Louis, MO as a lead ambassador for the Young Biz Kidz Organization. I was already prepared to be the youngest in the room as that is normal when I am around other kidpreneurs but I was not prepared to have to do everything without my mommy. During the retreat there was a national television station documenting everything we were doing so my mommy was not able to assist me with my interviews or set up my vending booths, she wasn’t able to help me vend at the events or assist in any way. I think mommy panicked more than I did however I did feel a little scared. What helped me pivot was I knew what was expected of me and although mommy wasn’t able to assist me she had actually taught me everything that I needed to know and do so I got myself together grabbed a business buddy and got the job done besides I was not going to allow the big kids to outdo me.
