We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bella Jaimie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bella below.
Bella, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to portray authentic characters within meaningful stories. I want people to make an impact with people who view my performance and projects, and I want them to better understand the complexity of real life.
In recent years, there’s been a trend of misrepresenting people, situations, and events as either wholly good or entirely bad.
As a result, we have generations of people not comprehending how to go through the difficulties in their life, but also unable to appreciate their accomplishments.
The lack of nuance, whether optimistic or pessimistic, is skewing authenticity and representation to the point where it can negatively affect real people.
A part of my mission is to be authentic to reality, showcasing that nothing is just black or white, happy or sad, it is much grayer and even colorful, and those hues paint a fuller, more nuanced, and genuine picture
The truth is that reality is far messier, and that’s a lot more interesting to work with as an artist, and far more engaging for an audience to watch.
So many things in life are like that, mental health, memory, and the challenges humans face daily. All the complication is beautiful, and that is my mission, to be authentic and showcase that beauty.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a multi-passionate artist with a concentration on acting, stunt training, and writing original works.
My passion for creative endeavors started as a young teen on the east coast, where I worked on local film projects. This led me to study at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where I honed my skills and expanded my understanding of the entertainment industry.
Having finished my formal schooling, I promptly moved out to Los Angeles.
Since arriving here, I’ve provided my services primarily as an actor and writer, but more recently I’ve started producing and styling for projects.
I hope the effort I put into each project comes through for the audience. I want them to see the work I put into each and every role, be it in front of or behind the camera.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
As any artist will tell you, you have to be creative with where your money comes in from.
There’s a variety of places I go to based on the talents I have honed; stunt-work, dancing, singing have all gotten me into rooms I never imagined. Even producing and styling have been avenues I’ve explored and gave me opportunities to make money. Because of my education, training, and commitment to understanding the industry, I feel qualified enough to be doing this work and be paid for it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the two most rewarding aspects of being an artist are seeing my imagination come to life, but also how an idea might affect the audience. It becomes a way of connecting with someone else in the world, to let them know they are not alone in what they’re feeling, be it good, bad, or a mix.
The project I am currently working on, a feature film called Inner Child, is one of those works that I feel can be extremely rewarding. I am working hard at being as authentic as possible within my performance, doing whatever I need to do to fully comprehend and accurately portray what my character is going through. I work hard to do so in order to truly respect those who are victims of trauma or have similar circumstances to the characters I portray. I am not afraid of delving into the darkness of life, I just try to do it as safely as possible.
