We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bella Gallegos. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bella below.
Bella, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
while it may seem funny, the first time I ever wanted more from my creativity and to see what it could someday offer me professionally was in the 4th grade. I had recently done a project on mount Rushmore, and the final piece to the project was to draw a picture. while this drawing was nothing amazing, my teacher had found it incredible. the feeling of her being utterly impressed with this drawing that consisted of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt. I wanted to feel that feeling over and over again and still push my craft to hope people feel that way whenever they see a piece of my art!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Bella (Isabella) Gallegos. I am a 17 year old student at Ipswich high school, and have been working as a freelance/goods artist for 4 years. while freelancing and creating goods is not your typical high schoolers job, I have loved and appreciated every moment of it. many of my work focuses on both digital art (done in procreate, Adobe illustrator and adobe photoshop) and ceramics. these art forms could not be any different from one another. while one focuses on my technical artistic skills in a 2D setting, ceramics helps me understand art in the 3d space. I have been learning digital art in my own time and I have been lucky enough to learn ceramics in a class setting. I think having such varying experiences while learning art and physically making art has been able to help me appreciate art in every form and help me add life to both a 3D and 2D space. I find myself feeling most accomplished when challenging myself and pushing myself with different art forms and seeing how I can communicate emotion in every space. being so young while running my own professional services, I have been able to see my personal maturity and my professional maturity grow exponentially, because of this I have the utmost respect for myself as a creative and the creativity of others. learning from every commission and selling every product has put into focus a marketing mind- and learning what sells and what doesn’t. while I have struggled with this, my Parents have been able to teach me the hardest lessons of marketing and help support me in my endeavors and ambitions as a artist. from buying colored pencils to helping me set up my first ever booth, they have been their to help support me and have watched me grow to a true creative.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Ever since I was young I have been fascinated with animated movies, the land before time, ferngully, princess and the frog. I always loved the idea of one day getting the opportunity to create an animated film of my own and has really shaped how I create and why I create.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
one of the most rewarding aspect of being a artist is when I can tell someone appreciates my art. By seeing people appreciate your art you can really see what it truly means when people say your art outlives you and is larger than you.
