We were lucky to catch up with Belinda Workman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Belinda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.

There’s always at least one moment in life that changes your mindset and perspective on things. When I was 24 years old I got really sick due to exposure to some pesticides that were sprayed in our apartment. The specific pesticides sprayed causes Hashimoto’s in women. It took over a year to figure out what was wrong with me. Being a pre-med student myself, I was not accepting the answers I was getting for my sickness. After my regular MD’s couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me and help me to feel better physically and emotionally, I went to holistic medicine. I found a doctor that specialized holistically in auto immune diseases, and thought this may be a good place to start. This doctor changed my view on medicine. He diagnosed me within a week with Hashimoto’s. He had me change my diet, take natural/supporting supplements, and be on 1 thyroid medication as my thyroid was so low, it was needed. I was feeling better within a couple weeks, but still not on point. He had me bring in ALL the current skin and hair care products I was using. He dissected them and explained all the toxic ingredients and what they do. I was shocked. I began spending way too much money on “natural” skin and hair care products that were never as natural as they claimed. I decided the only way to truly get what I needed, was to make it myself. I decided to not go to medical school, dropped out, and went back to school to get science and business degrees. I used everything I had learned over the last years in school, as well as getting more educated on holistic healing and medical practices. I began crafting my own skincare products, and eventually got to making my own hair care products. After having some friends try it and family, I decided to launch a business to sell it. Turns out, many others were in search for a true, authentic, non-toxic brand. Over 5 years we have grown from 15 products to 100. I always refer to this moment in my life, that this holistic doctor opened my eyes to a completely new way of practicing “Whole Body Health.” A real way of carrying for your body through diet, daily environmental exposures which included skin and hair care, supplements, exercise and all the daily aspects that contribute to our well-being. I’m happy to be able to provide a non-toxic skin and hair care brand people can trust.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Hello! My name is Belinda, and I am the creator and owner of Lotte Naturals. I began crafting Lotte Naturals about 6 years ago, and launched about 5 years ago! We began with 15 products and now have 100 non-toxic body and hair products to offer. Ok, but let’s back up a minute. How did I get into this? Well, I began having food allergies when I was about 6. Highly allergic to any food dyes, and I grew up in the 90s, so that was a hard thing to live with. Everything had food dyes in it back then. Needless to say, I’ve been used to having to watch the things I eat. Then when I was 24, after being exposed to some toxic pesticides, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. What’s Hashimoto’s? It’s an auto immune condition that effects they thyroid gland, causing you to have low thyroid levels. I worked with holistic doctors to begin my healing journey. One of the biggest things with auto immune decease, is each has its own triggers, which many can be certain foods or toxic ingredients. I corrected my diet, began taking many supplements, and began using a clean skin and hair care brand. Why the emphasis on having to use non-toxic skin and hair care? Well our skin is one of our biggest organs and can absorb up to 70% of what we put on it. This is important for all, but even more so when you have an auto immune disease. When the skin and hair care brands I was buying still contained ingredients I didn’t want on my body, I decided to begin crafting my own products. After much studying, and going back to school for business and science degrees, I eventually launched a Lotte Naturals, so others could join in non-toxic products in 2018.

It’s been amazing seeing the interest in toxic free products, and the realization people are having about the importance of paying attention to the ingredients in all of our products, not just food. We’ve been able to help a number of clients heal their acne that they couldn’t get to clear for years. Our anti-aging line of products has worked wonders with consistency, and clients have left their year long skincare routines to switch to non-toxic Lotte Naturals. When you use authentic natural ingredients, and use each knowing its capabilities on the skin and body, they do wonders. The best part, there aren’t harsh side effects externally or internally from certain toxic ingredients in many other skin and hair care products.

You’re doing all you can do to better the life you’re giving, and enhance each day to feel your best. How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

I think the biggest thing that helped build Lotte Naturals reputation, was being completely honest and authentic in what we had to offer. We’ve never hidden ingredients, or used fillers in products to save some money for the business. We use high quality ingredients, no matter the price increases we may see. We are honest with our prices, and want everyone to be able to have access to real, non-toxic skin and hair care products. Our products are even packaged in sustainable bottles such as glass and aluminum. We believe the packaging is important in order to provide completely clean products. I’ve never tried to cut corners, and have always been honest with my clients about the quality of ingredients they receive.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?

I would absolutely choose the same profession. If I could change anything, it would be that I got started with Lotte Naturals sooner! I’ve always had an urge to engage in continuous education for myself. I love to research things that intrigue me. Lotte Naturals allows me to continue my love for research and science through creating new products. We have so many formulations and product launches up our sleeve. Truly can’t wait to share all that we will have to offer over the years. It’s a field I feel very fulfilled in, and there’s no limits to where it can go.
