We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bel Fernández. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bel below.
Bel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I was studying Law in college, and I didn’t know which path to take because I didn’t like the career I was pursuing. I started delving into the world of tattooing, and from the first tattoo I did, I loved everything about it. The sensation of tattooing and the ability to imprint my art on the skin are fascinating, and I still feel the same excitement every time I tattoo.

Bel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I entered the world of tattooing thanks to my husband, who had been tattooing for five years. Currently, I specialize in botany and black and grey styles. I feel like I’m still discovering a defining style, but I particularly enjoy creating contrasts with black details and soft shadows, playing with flowing flowers, leaves, and occasionally combining them with animals or other elements.
What I’m most proud of is giving my all in every tattoo I do. It’s an honor for me to be able to tattoo, and I’m grateful that clients choose me to ink their skin

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
From a young age, you’re raised with the idea that the only way to be successful is by pursuing a traditional career and that artistic pursuits are not well-paid or even considered a profession. But I realized, after a long time, that it’s not the case. Art is crucial and one of the main foundations for happiness.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I feel that the most beautiful thing is at the end of the day, after several hours of tattooing, being able to see the happiness on each person’s face. It’s about meeting wonderful people (not only clients but also my fellow artists) and leaving a mark on my clients, especially when they choose me again.
I also love the freedom I have to travel and manage my time, allowing me to immerse myself in art in every corner I step into.
